Game Thread Nebrasketball Game #20: @ Wisconsin - Sunday, January 26th 12:00pm BTN

Defense has been pretty bad, but we’ve gotta figure something out on offense too. Essegian is our leading scorer right now with 6. Nobody has any rhythm on offense.

It was good in spurts. Our situational awareness is terrible.

We battled back to cut it to 3 and then we absolutely shit the bed and we are where we are now.

I don’t know why we don’t chase shooters off the 3 and then take our chances playing straight up on the posts. We’ve got the size now on this team where I think we could. Why we don’t is beyond me.

Can we maybe not let shooters catch the ball? That’s kind of the first thing you do when you play a shooter in high school.

We're stopping the first (skip) reverse pass after a double in the post. But we haven't figured out how to get to the second pass. (Hint: quit doubling)

Ioa exposed this with 2 shooters opposite of post entry and everyone since that game is now doing it. And Loesner refuses to make an adjustment. Dude is a 1 trick pony, where it works at PBA but rarely on the road.

I'm hoping Hoiberg hangs it up after this season.

There’s just not enough offensive skill on this team, and we don’t have the athleticism to be a dominant defensive team. We’re just not good enough to compete in this conference.

How do we find so many guys with some decent skills but literally cannot shoot.

This one is over. The season is for all intents, over. That Cockeye loss looms large.

Part of the problem is we are trying to cover for lesser athletes on our team, smaller players, on the perimeter. Brice going into a complete shell kills us, too.

I would also prefer to stop doubling so much, stop doing so much ball side hedging. Teams figured us out quite a while ago, and we haven't adjusted. On defense, we just can't keep overloading the ball side or doubling the post so much. On offense, it is just stagnant. Part of the issue is we only have two guys on the perimeter who can create their own (Brice and Juwan). Juwan is more of a 3/4 anyway, but is forced to play wing/guard responsibilities since we don't have enough guys who warrant being guarded much on the perimeter. This is where Brice disappearing kills us completely.

Seems like we find guys with attributes but extremely limited true skill. Like Berke has great length and theoretically is an okay shooter, but what does he do well? We have two point guards who have a red light to shoot the ball outside of three feet. Meah can’t do anything with the basketball other than occasionally block it. Gary is a defensive spark plug being forced to create on offense because of the overall ineptitude around him. Brice is really our only well rounded player, and even he has disappeared.

Only if we had an offensive minded head coach.

Fraud Hoiberg.
