Game Thread Nebrasketball Game #17: Rutgers - Thursday, January 16th 8:00pm FS1

I admittedly expected Rutgers to be solid this year with their stud freshmen. Turns out, they have no one else on the team.

Any updates on Worster being in the doghouse? I wonder if Ulis gets the start? I'd almost rather see Sam out there. Something seems off with the offense lately.

At home is where the NU defense only seems to show up, I hope they do tonight. There are no gimmies in the B1G.

IMO Nebraska can't afford to lose to Rutgers tonight. Steve Pickell has to be on the hot seat. Brought in 2 guys that are going to be top 5 picks this year. I think Harper is going to be a star in the NBA. He surrounded them with shooters out of the portal and they still aren't very good. A good defense is important, especially in the B1G. But IMO the game has passed you by if you can't run a decent offense.

Everyone wants to dog on the defense vs. Purdue. And while I agree it wasn't good, I thought the offensive execution was hot fucking garbage vs. the Boilermakers. It reminded me of some Tim Miles teams where 4 guys hung out around the perimeter, nobody moved without the ball, nobody set a single screen. the movement was stagnant and bad shots were all the rage.

I've kind of been thinking is was one leading to another. Purdue hit everything to start, which disheartened the defensive effort which led to pressure on offense. Once those shots weren't falling and the turnovers stacked up the whole thing just melted down.

The biggest thing that frustrates me about that kind of effort is Sam Hoiberg coming in and going nuts, but no one else follows suit. He doesn't do anything special but just bring effort and intensity and it doesn't seem like anyone else wanted to match it.

Rutgers is the worst team in the B1G at generating assists. Their offense is relying on Harper and Bailey to get looks out of iso situations. This one could get ugly for them if even one of those two aren't hitting. This Rutgers team isn't the stout defensive team they typically are every year.
