So context for the name Geep:

Geep Name Meaning

English (Devon): topographic name for someone living by a train or ditch, from Middle English gripe ‘drain, ditch’. Compare Gripper .

Americanized form of German and Dutch Griep .
So Matt Rhule hired culvert?

A very normal leader would let the new DC come in and realize ( and announce ) we’re keeping the DB coach, if that was their choice. Lord knows the only reason the DB is coming here is for the $. Versus announcing up front. Just a smooth brain move for a leader, undercutting them up front.

You also thought our previous handful of DB coaches were elite, dating back to the “Nadab Joseph is an Immediate 2 deep player” posts of yours.

If you think Rhule fucked up by not offering the Toledo DC, that's fine. You can think that way.

But Nebraska didn't lose a bidding war to Syracuse and Every DB coach Nebraska has had the last 5 seasons is more deserving of a job at Nebraska than the DB coach from Toledo.

I also have no clue what the hell you're talking about with respect to Nadab Joseph. He was the #2 juco player in the country when he signed so I'm sure I was excited as was everybody else.

Of course you would think our current DB coach whose boss coached DBs in the NFL and enjoyed an absolute sieve of a run defense, where teams didn’t need to try passing is in fact Very Good. After all, he was at UCF last year and is a proven entity. Good program to gauge coaches, UCF.

We are on an absolute tear of assistant coach trial and error, I’m sure this next one is the one we need. Lesson(s) learned.

USA Today will publish the list in a week or so for 2025 assistant pay.

FootballScoop had a list months ago & based off that - for OL coaches $750K would put him tied for 13th and 4 or 5 in the B1G.
Ah. I misread the deal and thought it was $1.5mm per year which would be crazy high. $750k per for a really good OL coach is pretty reasonable.

Living by a ditch…. or perhaps a trench?

Looks like the perfect name for an OL coach.

Also full disclosure I think Diaco is a better DC than butler.

No Way GIF

Rhule was making public statements about Williams staying under a new DC last week. I don’t buy that Kehres turned the job down because of that. He clearly had to know that when he came to Lincoln.

We must have decided we weren’t ready to pull the trigger on him. It is still the only explanation that fits all the facts.

One thing that has been glossed over is Geep starting right now and coaching in the bowl game. That's 5 extra practices he'll have with our current players and 15 extra opportunities to evaluate before the portal officially opens. I think that's a pretty big thing.

It’s huge.

He’ll get to evaluate real time and figure out who he needs to cycle out and what he’s really got to work with. Film can only get you so far, especially since so much of our depth doesn’t have any meaningful game film.
