In accordance with the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department Directed Health Measure announced Tuesday, Nebraska Athletics and University of Nebraska-Lincoln leadership will follow a reinstituted face covering (mask) mandate for all indoor spaces in athletic venues.

The new DHM from LLCHD runs from Thursday through Sept. 30 and applies to Husker home competitions during that time. The mask mandate will affect Nebraska games differently depending on the venue and the different types of spaces in the respective venues, including primary seating areas, concourses, club levels, loge seating, private suites and press areas.

Nebraska Athletics has worked closely with the LLCHD throughout the pandemic and will continue to do so throughout the upcoming 2021-22 athletic season. The Athletic Department will rely on guidance from the LLCHD and remain fluid to best protect the safety of our fans, student-athletes, coaches, staff and community.

The Athletic Department will implement the following policies for events through Sept. 30. The policies have been reviewed by the LLCHD.

Memorial Stadium (Football)
Nebraska fans attending September home games against Fordham (Sept. 4) and Buffalo (Sept. 11) are strongly encouraged to wear an appropriate face covering (covering both the nose and mouth) when on campus property. The new Directed Health Measure will apply to various spaces in Memorial Stadium as follows:

  • Concourses – Masks are strongly recommended in concourse spaces
  • Lobbies – Masks are strongly recommended upon entry and required when utilizing elevators or in common indoor premium spaces
  • Elevators – Masks are required when using an elevator
  • Suites – Masks are strongly recommended for this cohort group when inside the respective suite and required when outside in the hallways and lobbies of the suite level
  • Club Areas – Masks strongly recommended when sitting in the outdoor seats and required when inside the indoor portion of the club level
  • Press Box – Masks are required by media and other personnel on this indoor level
  • Seating Bowl – Masks are strongly recommended in any seating area outdoors
Nebraska Event Management, at the directive of our leadership team, may require certain working positions and media members to wear an appropriate face covering when outdoors and near the playing field.

All fans should bring an appropriate face covering (mask covering the nose and mouth) to the football home opener on Sept. 4, with only a limited number of masks available at the entry points.

Bob Devaney Sports Center (Volleyball)
For all Nebraska home volleyball matches (through at least Sept. 30), the face covering mandate will apply to all in attendance. Volleyball fans and workers will be required to wear a face covering (covering both the nose and mouth) when on university property and inside the venue.

Fans are encouraged to bring their own mask with a limited number of face coverings made available at the arena entry points. The mask mandate will be in effect at volleyball beginning with Friday's regular-season opener at the Devaney Center.

Barbara Hibner Soccer Stadium (Soccer)
The face covering mandate will not apply to any ticketed patrons at Nebraska soccer matches, as fans do not have access to indoor spaces. However, face coverings are strongly recommended for all in attendance at Hibner Stadium.

Select working staff who reside inside the press box areas will be required to wear an appropriate face covering (covering the nose and mouth). Nebraska Event Management, at the directive of our leadership team, may require certain working positions or media to wear an appropriate face covering when outdoors and near the teams and for those handling food and beverage at point-of-sale locations. Nebraska's next home soccer match is on Thursday, Sept. 2, against Omaha.

The current mask mandate is scheduled to expire on Sept. 30. Any changes to the DHM or adjustments to policies in athletic venues will be communicated as needed.

Husker fans are asked to be responsible and respectful of the mask mandate. Cooperation with this DHM will help keep our student-athletes and community safe, Nebraska athletic venues operating at 100 percent capacity, and will help ensure a complete season across all sports.

Nebraska Athletics will provide details for other athletic venues as additional teams begin their 2021-22 seasons later this fall.

We believe this is important for public health

But we're not gonna tell our rich donors what to do.

  • Suites – Masks are strongly recommended for this cohort group when inside the respective suite and required when outside in the hallways and lobbies of the suite level

Basically what I got from that is if your rich no mask mandate, if you're a poor mask mandate

Most of the biggest donors are hard right nut jobs and they'll pull their money if they have to wear masks. Owners of a fairly large company in Lincoln threatened to withhold their donations or have already withheld their donations to the catholic schools and the archdiocese of Lincoln over kids wearing masks in school. They have at least one sky box and will definitely throw a fit if they have to wear a mask. Can't imagine the other enormous boosters are much different.

Did I read a different article? The one I read says masks are only mandated in the press box and elevators. Not sure how this is a rich/poor thing.

I'm an idiot. I thought seating bowl said required. Not press box. But also aren't suites "indoors" by any common usage of the word?

Generalize much? I read your shit in a different thread and now this. It's evident, that despite calling out others in the previous thread as mouth breathers that parrot Fox News and regurgitate right wing media sites, that you are truly no better.

I mean, heaven forbid that somebody state that they are going to withhold their business/donation/etc.. to an organization if that organization chooses to do something that they don't agree with... Apparently exercising your personal freedoms is now a bad thing...

And there's your typical response from someone like yourself. I'm incapable of putting together a coherent sentence, so I'll just try to gif my way out of it...

Do you want to have an actual conversation about this or do you just want to piss and moan? I'm up for an actual discussion but I don't really care to listen to you whine about wearing a mask if that's all you're going to do.

Now that the vaccine is out and didn't stop covid and most have finally agreed that it is here forever (which was obvious from the beginning), when does the masking stop? What is the goal? I don't know the answer to those anymore and can only assume that means people want to mask forever as covid isn't leaving. Tia

I agree that it was probably going to be here forever in some shape or form similar to the flu. Also similar to the flu, the more people who get the vaccine, the less likely they are to get sick, pass the virus to other people, and experience serious symptoms from the virus. And don't be obtuse. Nobody wants to wear a fuckin mask. Hopefully it's over and done with when the current mandate is over on September 30th. In my experience the same people complaining the loudest about mask mandates are the same ones who refuse to get the vaccine or abide by any mitigation strategies.

Who said anything about wearing a mask. I simply called you out for (your words):

  1. Making an assumption that "Most of the biggest donors are hard right nut jobs" without any factual basis behind this. It may be true that most of the biggest donors tend to be Conservative in nature, but that doesn't make them "hard right nut jobs".
  2. Making an assumption that said donors will "pull their money if they have to wear masks" without any factual basis behind this. While there may be one or two donors that possibly might hold this opinion, you've generalized this to be "most", which is factually incorrect and irresponsible.
  3. Lastly, you cast the Owners of a fairly large company in Lincoln in a negative light because they have/may (sounds like you don't know for sure and are just using conjecture once again) withhold their donations to the Catholic Schools and the Archdiocese of Lincoln if a decision about mask wearing is made that doesn't line up with their belief. Last I checked, their money is their money and they can do with it what they want. I don't begrudge someone that doesn't want to patron a business that may not hold the same beliefs/values as that person.
So once again, I will ask where I have said anything about wearing a mask, whining about wearing a mask, etc...

Do I agree with mask mandates? No. Did I wear one today when I went to the store? Yes. Did I bitch/moan to anyone that would listen that I had to wear one? No.

Now, to speak to facts. Do you see a factual reason why we have a Mask Mandate in effect in Lancaster County when 70% of the COVID patients currently in our Hospitals come from outside our County? Yes, that statistic was confirmed for me by someone high up within the Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department. How about the fact that they have now forbit employees of the LLCHD from reporting the statistics of the hospitalized COVID patients, specifically what counties they are from?

I'll hang up and listen...

Making an assumption that the rich and powerful donors from the state of Nebraska are hard right is not hardly assumption. I'll concede that painting them as 'nut jobs' was a bit over the line. I'll give you four of the largest and you tell me if they're hard right. Ricketts. Hawks. Whitney. Peed.

Assuming that they'll pull their money, I'd say most is closer to reality than none. Depends on how strict they are.

I'm casting them in a negative light because, in my opinion, asking the schools/archdiocese to choose between enormous amounts of money that will do a lot of good for children and the church as a whole and doing what the schools think is best for the kids is a shitty thing to do. They're obviously free to do whatever they want with their money. But holding money over the heads of the schools/churches and telling them to dance ain't very christlike.

And as for your 'personal freedoms' line, gimme a break. People give up their 'personal freedoms' every day in this country because of what the government requires. And now all of a sudden wearing a mask is a bridge too far for these people? Laughable. Nobody wants to wear a damn mask.

Well the fact is that it's due to the substantial spike in covid cases in Lancaster County over the last few weeks.

Here are some more facts:

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 positive patients: 75 with 55 from Lancaster County (7 on ventilators) and 20 from other communities (5 on ventilators)

Looks like either you or your source are full of shit. Lol

This didn't really answer my question. What does the mask do at this point and when does it stop?

Ok, the mask is a mitigating measure to slow the spread of the virus. The viral particles attach to larger particles in your nose and mouth, usually saliva. The masks limit the distance that the particles coming out of your nose and mouth are able to travel. And the masks stop like they did last time, when the mandate expires on September 30th, unless cases and hospitalizations are still high. Then it gets extended, probably another 2 weeks or a month. Does that answer your question?
