Northwestern in Ireland was not a juggernaut opponent

@ Minnesota on a Thursday opener was not a juggernaut opponent

@ Illinois 2021 was not a juggernaut opponent

Colorado 2018 was not a juggernaut opponent

Stop opening with conference opponents, Big 12 teams, weird ass neutral locations. Make UTEP/Arkansas St/South Alabama come to Lincoln and get our legs under us on a Saturday at 2:30. Fuck 'em up and move on.

The Big fucked Nebraska 3 times with 3 season opening road games. Nebraska didn't have any leverage to say no. Its the God Damn league schedule.

Northwestern moved the game to Ireland because they got a big payday for moving the game. Again, Nebraska didn't have a lot of recourse.

As for the Colorado game, that only opened the season because the Akron game was called due to weather.

Nebraska literally had NO way to say no to any of those games.

There's always leverage, bud.

And I don't care WHO's fault it is. The weird start fucks us every time.

I don't even understand your argument.

Nebraska cant tell the Big Ten "no" when it comes to the conference schedule.

As for the Northwestern game in 2022?

That was an 11 loss Northwestern team. Scott Frost's terrible leadership lost that game. It had nothing to do with the location or the date of the game.

The Northwestern game is exactly my point - you won't find me defending Scotty at all - but if you think international travel at a weird stadium after sight seeing all week and our HC driving around in taxis no where to be found the night before the game had nothing to do with it, you're insane. That game in Lincoln doesn't go the same way. They literally beat no one else. Their only win was a weird fucking location against an undisciplined team that couldn't take the distractions of an international opener. You see far better teams than us struggle with any neutral field, pomp and circumstance game.

If you think we aren't giving some approval, availability, or co-signing for those Season/Conference openers, I think you're a dummy. Michigan hasn't opened against a B1G opponent once in the last decade, probably ever. OSU's times doing it were against Indiana who was constantly FAR inferior to them. Penn St is the only "driving ratings" team that was scheduling pretty difficult openers. Other teams have done it here and there - but it became normal practice for us - Illinois, NW in Ireland, and Minnesota in 3 straight seasons. All teams that we either were neck and neck with, or had a mitigating circumstance like GOING TO FUCKING IRELAND, and leading up to that shitty 1-11 season NW and Nebraska were very similar in terms of standing. Few programs were tackling that challenge - the ones that were mostly were being scheduled inferior conference opponents by the B1G.

My argument is very simple - when we aren't a great program and are marked by lack of discipline, don't start with games that require higher levels of discipline. Give me UTEP in Lincoln to start so we can get our legs under us.
