Casa Bonita was a childhood highlight of every Colorado trip. Waterfalls, cliff divers, fake gun fights, arcade, mariachi bands, exploring caves... I've had dreams about that place as an adult and I haven't been there in 30 years.

Food was abysmal...other than the Sopapillas which were great but you paid for the "atmosphere" .... which in the eyes of this then 8 year old, was five-star.

Same for me. I love Casa Bonita's. Have family in Vail, and on our ski trips in the winters (at least once if not two times per winter) we would always stop at Casa Bonita's. It is tradition.

I was there 4 or 5 years ago with my wife. We took the long way home (very long way) to Montana by going through CO and then hit Moab and southern Utah. We stopped at Casa Bonita's and ate there. She had no idea what it was really, even though I tried to explain it. You gotta experience it to understand it IMO, and it really helps if one has nostalgic childhood memories.

I personally feel the place is awesome. Can't think of another restaurant anywhere like it. There was barely anyone there when we went 4 or 5 years ago. Which is fine with me, but obviously not great for the business prospects of the place. My wife enjoyed it a lot. Not as much as me, but she liked it.

The soppapillas were as always - good. The rest of the food wasn't. I remember thinking their two enchilada plate was good when we used to go when I was younger, but it wasn't very good this last time. That's OK, the experience brought so much back for me. Love that place.

Now, I would not want to go on a Husker saturday and miss the game. Totally get Garrett not wanting to go during a Huskers game. But otherwise, I love Casa Bonita's.

I’ve got you covered, G.

Bring up the plans and get her talking about it…then slip this one in as she shows excitement/expectation:

“Well, I’m excited too, because after Casa Bonita I’m going to show you why I call our little palace here (slap a hand on the wall) Casa GonFreakYa”

I promise you she’ll never want to leave the house, either because she will never be able to stop horn-doggin after that line or (and MUCH more likely) she will delay ever returning home from Casa Bonita with you for as long as she can

Just say that there’s a COVID outbreak there and not go. If she argues with you, tell her no more Dick.
