Minchey

You spend that type of money on a QB if you're a QB away. We just have too many other holes.

I would say that's about right in our QB room last year. Raiola was the lions share, but we had to pay Davila a decent amount to come here and know he was going to be a backup. Lateef getting a nice pay raise this year.

Completely agree.

If we have functional offensive and defensive lines right now, it might make sense. We need to spend a bunch of money on two guys in each room to make any sort of a push at improvement possible next year.

Erm, disagree with that. I wouldn't want to roll into next season with Lateef and a guy with less experience than Lateef. I'd still want to bring in a guy with some experience.
I’m assuming we have Minchey. That’s why I said “another” transfer qb.

I think we’d be done at qb if we had:

Minchey
Lateef
2026 QB

Not sure there is one? Raiola is ranked as the 5th best QB in the portal, and we all want him gone. Mestemaker from North Texas is the #1 guy, but is rumored to be getting 7 million in the portal, and we shouldn't pay him or anyone that. Go grab another guy that probably is lesser than Lateef and Minchey to help competition a bit.

Coaches probably played this as good as they could have considering how bad of a spot we were in at QB. I just don't like that we were in this spot heading to year 4. Kind of "is what it is" though, it isn't like you were going to turn five star Dylan Raiola away.
Maybe the UNLB QB? I haven’t watched other teams this year to be able to have a list of the more sure fire dudes.

Fair enough. I still wonder exactly how many we'll ultimately bring in. Since we don't have a high school guy coming in, we'd need to take four QBs from the portal to maintain our current number (replacing Raiola, Davila, Gramstad, and Longval).

If you’re paying LaQueef $1,000,000, you don’t know how to manage a roster. He’s a $300K guy at best.
Yes. If they are worried about him leaving good lawd. We can’t be this handcuffed by a below average fr QB when we need a room filled. If he can’t accept that you can easily replace him in the portal. Anywhere he goes is going to have a fairly deep QB room unless he goes to the La Tech’s of the world. I am not sure he would play much at that level either.

wilson Dimwitt says we are looking to land Norte Dame back-up Kenny Chestney and says he has it on good authority tha NU running back Michael Rose Ives will hit the portal. He said his ear was sore from working the phones. Stay tuned.

Kienholtz? Not sure if I spelled it correctly.

I'll add that after his family has had to travel further to games, perhaps he'd be more likely to stick around for 2 years vs. 1 and done. Mom and dad can drive three hours and not have to piss and shit on an airplane.
Nakos or Wiltfong think Northwestern is the leader for Him.

I just hope he brings practice habits, culture and a tough, physical mindset from ND

We need those 3 things far more than we need any one player

I get what you are saying... I would just tell you that a starting QB for a B1G or SEC bowl eligible team is commanding 7 figures. Dane Key got 800k. Grant Seagren is looking at 800k offers. And you aren't paying your returning starter less than you are bringing Minchie in. They had to overpay Lateef to stay and pay market rate to bring Minchey in.

There's a difference between a starting QB and a backup finishing the season after an injury, no?

Or be cheap and watch him walk. You’re going to have pay up if you want someone that is halfway okay and willing to sit on the bench

You call it being cheap, I call it being wise.

Start by showing his starter stats...160 ypg and 55% comp. Then show him a reasonable number to commit to keep developing him, and if the answer is no, then any litany of players could produce the same exact results for a lower cost.
