Minchey

I get what you are saying... I would just tell you that a starting QB for a B1G or SEC bowl eligible team is commanding 7 figures. Dane Key got 800k. Grant Seagren is looking at 800k offers. And you aren't paying your returning starter less than you are bringing Minchie in. They had to overpay Lateef to stay and pay market rate to bring Minchey in.
That’s a disingenuous label for TJ. He’s not the returning starter. He’s a true freshman backup that filled in for the injured starter, and for the most part, did so rather poorly.

wilson Dimwitt says we are looking to land Norte Dame back-up Kenny Chestney and says he has it on good authority tha NU running back Michael Rose Ives will hit the portal. He said his ear was sore from working the phones. Stay tuned.
We are signing Mango Chutney to go alongside our roasted chicken at the UNL training table? That's a big get.

Yeah, he didn't win the position. We had a choice of the NAIA guy, the guy who was RS'd by a JUCO, and Davila. He got the job by default.

There's a difference between a starting QB and a backup finishing the season after an injury, no?
That's a different conversation altogether.

My point is if you want to keep him, you have to pay him what you are bringing Minchey in for, and they obviously wanted to keep Lateef. If you can't pay both, you gotta go get better than Minchey and pay that guy what you are paying Lateef and Minchey combined.

As I stated above, if you want to keep Lateef, you have to pay him what you are paying Minchey who you think could be a starter for a P2 bowl-eligible team. They obviously wanted to keep him. Like it or not, Lateef is our returning starter when the portal opened. The market value is what it is whether fans think they performed to that or not.

It's the same reason I always got mad at Gas Can for saying "he went above market value so we pulled away." The market value is the market. IMO we are overpaying for both these guys based on their results, but you have to if you want both guys on your roster because that's the market value and the position we put ourselves in when 50% of our 2026 QB roster was going to be a Raiola, then they left.

If you have to pay Lateef Minchey money then the answer is you don’t and bring someone else in. Unless our NIL is poppin rn. Just too many holes that need to be filled. And good lawd if we can bring in someone closish to Minchey for TJ money to be competition do it. That’s not even a discussion at that point.

TJ imo is a huge project who needs years of passing mechanics work, then reading a defense. He can’t make any checks or read a defense right now. He’s a very fragile dual threat who does not show the instincts of knowing when to run. I am no guru but he seems like a development potential role player until season 3-4.

I don't mind them paying their returner Lateef what they are paying some guy that had better talent around him and less numbers. With the position we put ourselves in at QB this year, it is what it is. I'm not getting bent out of shape. Our QB room is getting paid less than it was last year right now.

I hear ya. I just really don’t like TJ as he has a ton of work to be serviceable in the B1G.
