Well, that’s kind of an ignorant statement then considering Rhule and staffs eval was the exact same as Steins. If anything it should encourage you that the qb we immediately zeroed in on was also someone the quarterback whisperer wanted too.

It would stand to reason that some donors might have backed out of their NIL promises with how the season finished out. We just don’t have the raw cash that the serious teams do. I wish Buffet wasn’t such a fag.
Honestly we should just accept that next year is a lost cause. The donors should give the bare minimum. Save up and make a super class when the schedule is manageable. We will never sustain a big time roster year after year. Maybe we need to spend more strategically.
This isn't the reason Nebraska was unable to sign Minchey. Kentucky offered almost twice as much money.
The a huskers just had the 3rd highest paid QB in college football, and Kentucky is paying a career backup almost that same amount of money
So NU’s offer was how much?
Kentucky message boards are claiming nebraska offered him 1.25 million in 26 and 3 million total over two years.
Kentucky, allegedly offered 3 million just for 2026.
I wanted Minchey, but if that's true, then I'm glad he walked. You can't pay a career back up that type of money.
At some point you have to pay what the market is, even if the market is nuts. If you don’t, then you’re not really playing the game.
I’ve generally been ok saying we aren’t going to bid X for certain guys, but now we are sorting through guys with serious flaws at qb, who may also end up being expensive, given our desperation.
Even worse, Minchey seemed to be the linchpin of our strategy. We were clearly not ready to go to plan b.
Now we have no qb. We are out there presumably trying to get other offensive pieces but have nothing to tell them about who their qb will be.
There was a lot of reason for guys to be skeptical about our offense and now we’ve just given them more to be worried about.
It sucks that the portal is so expensive, but I’m not sure the solution is to just not go after the guys you most want, unless you don’t have an interest in competing on the field with the teams you don’t want to compete with in the petal.
We’re gonna end up with Chiles or Lagway. Neither of those gets me excited but I also think their mobility gives some hope. Idk man. Atleast we have Nebrasketball

Not only that, we didn't know we were bidding against Kentucky. Minchey and the agent signed the Kentucky deal before we knew. They never gave Nebraska a chance to bid.
I have no doubt we wouldn't have paid Raiola money to a guy who had as little career PT as Minchey. People would have crucified Rhule for that also. But it really sucks that they say they committed and then didn't even give us the courtesy of a chance to make a new offer.
Its really supply and demand.
If a team has a higher demand for a good QB, then, we're going to get outbid.
But what is Nebraska's demand right now?
Like, it feels like we're just taking our time figuring out who is available and go from there. And by the time that us as Nebraska fans think we need, any good transfer at that position is already signed to another school.
You think edges, tackles, a good RB, LBers, and a good QB would be our most ideal, but I honestly can't tell anymore.
They were desperate. They whiffed on their #1 choice.
We'll likewise overpay for whoever we get now.
I think they didn't wait for a counter offer because the agent knew the offer was absurd. Agents certainly want the best deal possible for their clients, but they also know the market.
Based solely on what's in the public domain, it sounds like we were in discussions to set up visits with four guys last night

Yes. Nebraska tried to be the best cheap offer.
They weren’t serious.
Agent was smart to not have him sign right away.
If someone offers 1.5 million more than your next best offer you don’t got back and ask for more. You assume they can’t go higher
