At some point you have to pay what the market is, even if the market is nuts. If you don’t, then you’re not really playing the game.
I’ve generally been ok saying we aren’t going to bid X for certain guys, but now we are sorting through guys with serious flaws at qb, who may also end up being expensive, given our desperation.
Even worse, Minchey seemed to be the linchpin of our strategy. We were clearly not ready to go to plan b.
Now we have no qb. We are out there presumably trying to get other offensive pieces but have nothing to tell them about who their qb will be.
There was a lot of reason for guys to be skeptical about our offense and now we’ve just given them more to be worried about.
It sucks that the portal is so expensive, but I’m not sure the solution is to just not go after the guys you most want, unless you don’t have an interest in competing on the field with the teams you don’t want to compete with in the petal.
