I'm 50/50 on Mickey on getting the job, but the guy knows WR talent, and it was evident last night with Palmer blowing past everyone and Washington is reliable for CT for the most part. Not to bash on Omar, but he's basically been a ghost since he's been here, and we need to find a way to better evaluate whether the local Nebraska kids are on the same level as kids from SEC country during the recruiting process (Rivals and 247 ratings are garbage for the most part) and get out of the mindset that we need to recruit local kids just to make grey hairs feel good.
On the defensive side of the ball, Frost & Chins did no one any favor by mostly recruiting the "Nebraska" kids for the front 7 and it shows talent wise. We haven't had a pass rushing threat since Randy Gregory left nor a guy on the DL that demands double teamed in order to exploit a weak offensive line. Our secondary has been serviceable, but if the front 7 is able to generate more pressure, then that would take some heat off the secondary and maybe open things up for more turnovers.
If the rumors are true that Mickey doesn't want to be next HC, then that's probably because this team is in bad shape talent wise and knows it won't be a quick fix or he's unsure if he can get the coaches needed to fix things here at Nebraska. He'll need to find a new OC & OL coach at a minimum to fix the offense. On defense, I'm sure Mickey might leave Busch as the D Coordinator and let him get a new DL and LB's coach. Personally, I feel that Mickey would be great as a HC recruiting wise and could secure that SEC speed needed to be competitive. However, I feel from an X's and O's standpoint, he's deficient, but maybe that is an advantage which allows him to be a CEO and rely on other people, who are better at it.
