Some message board mumblings are saying when McKewon has been saying the transfer QB Nebraska is after is not in the Portal yet, McCall is who he is talking about. I don't know if the posters are just putting 2 and 2 together, but there has been some speculation he will go in the Portal after their bowl game.

QB Grayson McCall says he’ll return to college football in 2022, but will it be at CCU?

Coastal Carolina star quarterback Grayson McCall said Wednesday he is committed to playing college football next year.
But will that be at CCU?
McCall intimated following a team practice for the Tailgreeter Cure Bowl that he has considered a transfer from CCU. The Chants’ season will end with Friday night’s bowl game against Northern Illinois at Exploria Stadium in Orlando.
When asked if he had put any thought into leaving college after being at CCU for three years, or if he had put any thought into transferring, McCall said:
“Obviously, it’s been a thought in the back of my mind. But up to this point, I’m focused on winning this bowl game. I’ll be back. I’ll be playing college football again next year. So there’s a lot to think about, but I’ll obviously focus on this last objective for the guys, the seniors.”
Coastal head coach Jamey Chadwell said Wednesday afternoon that he has discussed the possibility of McCall transferring with the QB he recruited out of Porter Ridge High School in Indian Trail, N.C., and inserted as the starter in last year’s season opener at Kansas.
“We have [talked] and everything we’ve been told up to this point is that he’s coming back,” Chadwell said. “Now I’m also realistic on how the game works now and how much other things get involved, so our expectation and anticipation is that he’s coming back. We’ll have another talk after the game to sort of confirm what’s going on, but we believe wholeheartedly he’s coming back right now.”
McCall is a redshirt sophomore this season. A pair of recent rule changes by the NCAA has made transferring more attractive to some players.
The NCAA is allowing all Division I athletes to transfer one time without having to sit out a year, so McCall would be eligible to play for another college immediately. Players are also now allowed to benefit and profit from their name, image and likeness, so a move to a Power Five program might mean the ability for McCall to earn more money in addition to playing a higher level of competition and potentially gaining more exposure.
“I couldn’t tell you 100 percent because I know how the game works a little bit, but . . . our expectation is he’s coming back to play for us another year and graduate,” Chadwell said.
McCall has been in CCU’s program for three years, meaning he meets the NFL’s criteria for being eligible to play in the league. He could leave school to play professionally, if there is interest.
McCall was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season.
He leads all of NCAA FBS in passing efficiency at 208, which would shatter the NCAA single-season record of 203.1 set by Mac Jones of Alabama last season if he maintains the number through the bowl game. He also leads all of FBS in yards per pass attempt (12.12 yards) and passing yards per completion (16.61 yards).
He is fifth in the nation in completion percentage at 73% and has thrown for 2,558 yards in 10 games with 23 touchdowns and just three interceptions in 2021. For his CCU career, McCall has completed 71 percent of his passes with 50 touchdowns and six interceptions, and has rushed for 830 yards and 11 scores. He is 19-2 as a starter, including 9-1 this season.

That article is certainly illuminating. Didn’t know he’d gone on record about it before. He certainly doesn’t give off Wolf of Wall Street “I ain’t goin nowhere” vibes. Wouldn’t surprise me if Frost coveted McCall given how much inspiration he took from CC’s offense this past season.

Would be pretty shitty to spend so much time working with CC just to steal their QB.

There’s a big difference between “I’m playing college football next season” and “I’m playing college football at CCU next season.”

This would be massive. Perfect fit and huge stats to back it up, albeit at the G5 level.

One thing that I have been thinking about is the possibility that as Whipple, Frost, etc. have met lately, they have worked out some of the details of what the offense will look like. My guess is that through those discussions, it has been made clear that although we may be moving to a more pass-centric offense, it might be wise to keep some elements of the option on the table. It was highly effective at times. Frost has said they aren’t completely changing systems, but they are tweaking some things. Frosts offense moved the ball but lacked some consistency, especially in the passing game during obvious passing downs and once we crossed the 35.

Additionally, Whipple used to refer to his offense as “the kitchen sink.” He might be intrigued at having some triple-option and RPO elements to add to his kitchen sink.

Whipple is here to fix our passing game and red zone offense. If Frost wants to keep some elements of the spread option, and Whipple is on board, then Greyson McCall is probably the best thing that could happen.

Just realized I posted this in the wrong thread a minute ago.

McCall is easily the quickest and best decision maker in the portal. I watched a lot of CCU football this year. Super fast and fluid decision maker. Goes through 3-4 progressions and knows where it’s going before he plants his foot almost every time. Not the most athletic guy but is still very effective in the RPO and option game because he makes the right read and makes it fast. Also is great at fake pitches.

Would be a great pickup , interested to see if he’d still put up those video game numbers in the B1G
