Matt Rhule's final contract released this afternoon

Record-wise, Frost was the worst coach in Nebraska history, in my opinion. Somewhere, Bill Glassford is thanking him.
But there's a poster on here who thinks Matt Rhule has a 45% chance of equaling that (?). Yikes.

If I actually legitimately thought that I don't know what I'd do. I actually feel.bad for that fan - he's got to be under an immense amount of stress for the upcoming season. He thinks Rhule is essentially a coin flip (45% chance) away from being a success OR the absolute worst coach in NU history. That's a hell of a 50-50 coin flip.

That's like doing an 8-ball of coke, popping 3 mollies then emptying your life savings and hitting the roulette table at the nearest casino. Like, watching Nebraska football doesn't HAVE to feel like a Hunter S Thompson novel. I understand it's felt that way for the last 5 years, but that's not the baseline for NU FB.

I'm going to go 20/65/5/10

20 is does well. Like competing for B1G and making the 12 team playoff.

65 is does well but more like 7-5 to 9-3 range.

5 Health or whatever

10 Flames out like Frost

Rhule has a 1 in 10 chance of equalling the record of the worst HC in modern Nebraska football history.

Rhule better get in the film room then! Lol

1 in 10 chance of not being able to resurrect the dead. It's probably lower. And the top end is probably lower too. Might be 5/88/5/2

Let's you and me be honest, there isn't a 1 in 10 chance Rhule will be the worst HC in Nebraska football history.

No but there is a chance he'll fail. Failing could mean being within a game of .500 for the next 4 years.

Hey, failing here has meant 9-3....so really depends on your definition. Lots of coaches can and would fail with that water mark in today's B1G / CFB landscape.

You really have to define what failing is for MKR before you make odds on it.

Failing means moving on from him in less than 5 years and not because he chose to leave.

I would agree with that. But the bar is SUPER low compared to where it's been.

If Rhule does this in year 1-5, he'll be considered a success by UNL admin:

Yr 1: 4-8
Yr 2: 7-5
Yr 3: 8-4
Yr 4: 8-4
Yr 5: 9-3

That would be a wild success vs where the bar was set by Riley and Frost. It won't be hard for Rhule to do that.

Agree that's the most likely scenario. Raiola committing and peer recruiting would significantly change that trajectory. I'm ready to be hurt again.

If Rhule does that trajectory, the question will be, do the fans accept it? Or do they revert to 2000-2010 expectations?

Taters would give their left arm for an 8-4 record at this point. But if you're pulling 8-4s in Yr 3 that means you're still likely losing to group of: OSU/UM/USC/PSU group and a couple Ls in: WISC/IA/MN.

I think Rhule will get the program back to a minimum 7-5 level pretty quick. The question is what happens after that?
