March Madness Running Game/Discussion Thread

SEC went from laughing stock basketball conference to dominating CBB in just a few years. Crazy what happens when you invest in programs and go out and higher best coaches.

You have to give the SEC credit. They see what it takes to win and then do it. Just like OSU. They don’t care what it looks like or if it is over the top. And we’re stuck with Nebraska nice and the pancake crowd.

#BREAKING: The NCAA and Raleigh police have launched an investigation into UConn’s athletic department, per source.

Following the Huskies loss to Florida, Dan Hurley went on an explicative filled rant that was caught on video by a member of the media. UConn’s Director of Men’s Basketball Communications Bobby Mullen then demanded the deletion of the video and threatened the reporter, saying that he’d, “ruin his life.”

I’m told the NCAA is considering a possible postseason ban and loss of scholarship spots. Local law enforcement is also investigating the matter, as making threats is illegal in North Carolina.

This isn’t real btw

Dude is a certified psycho/asshole. Can't stand his sideline bullshit.

He did go on an F bomb tirade about the officials on the way to the locker room after the loss. Caught on video.
This has been one of my favorites of the twitterverse the last couple of weeks.

The fouls were Uconn 21 and Florida 17. I sorta watched the game (wasn't paying full attention the whole time) and from what I saw it seemed pretty fairly called. Pretty sure this is just another example of him being a massive baby back bitch who thinks his shit don't stink

His guys were called for a lot of phantom fouls with not even minimal contact. I wanted them to loose and I was raging at cbb refs.

Maybe if Hurley didn't bitch, moan, whine and scream like a spoiled 6 yr old brat at anything that doesn't go his way, it might help. And it's not like he's just an asshole to the refs, although they are certainly always getting the worst of it. He's an asshole to his assistant coaches, etc. I have never seen the level of ridiculous antics from a coach like this. I mean we know about Bobby Knight, and he also was a narcissistic raging psycho asshole, but Hurley is at a different level from what I have seen. In ways it is a sort of effed up entertainment in itself of how off the charts awful his antics are. In it's way, it is entertainment, although that is not why he does it.

"Ratings" where only one metric is being used in a blanket way is really not showing the whole picture. Cable viewership is down on the whole massively across all types of shows/broadcasts (who could see that coming lol - everyone).

Regardless of misc critiques about how basketball is played for the most part now, these leagues are in business to make money, and they are making a lot of money.

Cable viewership with NCAA sports isn't down though, so comparing it to Sponge Bob or whatever other non-sports program on cable is irrelevant.

Clay is an NBA hater. Sharing his tweet wasn't about the NBA though, it was for the NCAA tournament. (It's strongly rumored ESPN didnt renew their SNB contract because of concers with their NBA deal signed in 2024). Coincidentally, SNB just had their best ratings in 5 years. Hmmm...

I wasn't really meaning to disagree with you - and I do agree about Clay (although I really didn't notice it was Clay who made that tweet).

March Madness is wildly popular. NFL is a different animal. And I wasn't comparing anything to spongebob (which I despise that show when my kids were young - annoying as eff show lol). Main point is the NBA is making a lot of money. Pro leagues not doing well are not looking to expand.

Whether someone likes or dislikes the NBA or any other sport, at the end of the day they are businesses (even college ball especially these days) and business owners don't like losing money. Struggling leagues aren't trying to, or have solid plans in the works, to expand. Pro sports teams aren't worth multiple billions even for the dogshit franchises/teams if they are a money loser. Gotta look at more than cable ratings.

Late add: I stream almost everything (as do most). I do still have Dish (no cable at my place in the mountains here in MT), but it literally is only for sports - I watch nothing else of all of those hundreds of stations on Dish (would be the same for cable for me). I prefer to watch sports on Dish as streaming sports is still too iffy for my tastes. So I overpay for Dish because it is more reliabble for sports, plus since I have Dish a lot of stations you can, if you want, access their stuff via streaming with the Dish login. I am sure this is stuff you already are well aware of.
