Malachi Coleman

The dick part was a joke, but 2 years of eating right and lifting will get that young buck up to playing weight
Might be a great long-term addition to the room, but does HCSF really have roster room for a 2 year project? I think the general consensus around these parts is he's in "win now" mode. Not saying the kid doesn't have to potential to be a great player someday, but ...

A couple guys like that a year are alright, assuming you bring in another "surefire" prospect there too.

He is not the kind of local kid you pass on, period. Sky high potential. Yes, he needs to bulk up a bit. But he is also only 16, maybe 17 years old. It's not unreasonable to think that he can't add 15 pounds before he even would arrive on campus. I also wouldn't be surprised if Mickey really likes this kid and ends up wanting him at WR.

He's only a Jr. currently, he could get up to 190-195 by the end of his sr year. Kid is a baller tho, unreal athleticism

If only a Jr., then it's a different story ... perhaps for a different coaching staff. I stand by my "win now" mode for the current staff as I think that's the standard they're being evaluated against.

That's fair, I'd still take him regardless tho

Probably the #1 recruit in Nebraska for next year. He goes to Lincoln East so hopefully none of that Omaha BS. He's getting some early attention visited Michigan for the Ohio State game and "Absolutely loved it" no offer yet. Offers from Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Maryland, Minnesota, Northern Cockeye so far.

WR or OLB depending on how he fills out this year. Want to take visits, but Nebraska has done a good job recruiting him.

He’s a Spartan so he’ll probably do the right thing.

I am very good friends with both his Mom and Dad. Malachi is a great kid. If you haven't already read the article that the OWH did on him, I would urge you to do so. It gives a very good look at his history and what Craig and Miranda have provided for him in regards to a stable and loving home. Last I had talked to Craig, NU was interested in him as an OLB, but was recruiting him as an Athlete since he is so new to football and will continue to grow and get better the more experience he has. Both Craig and Miranda are huge Husker fans, but their goal is to make sure that Malachi ends up with the best fit possible to ensure his success, regardless of where that might be.

That was a great article. Kid is fun to watch.

Coleman liked Mickey Joseph's 'straight to the point' style

Malachi Coleman didn't have to wait long to hear from Mickey Joseph.

The dead period ended and Coleman got a chance to interact with the new Husker wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. While it's not sure what position the four-star prospect will play at the next level, Joseph has an idea where he'd like to see Coleman play.

The coach made a strong impression.

"He was straight to the point of nobody is going to have a better relationship with me and nobody is going to be as open and honest as him," Coleman explained to Husker247. "I loved that. He was personable and easy to talk to and made me feel even more wanted at Nebraska, even though we don’t know what I'm going to play yet. I look forward to building a relationship with him because I know he could help me get to where I want to."

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Coleman's explosive ability as a wide receiver already and his athleticism as a defender off the edge make him a popular prospect, with offers already from Nebraska, Minnesota, Maryland, Kansas State, Kansas and Northern Cockeye. That list will keep expanding.

"The recruiting process is crazy. I got coaches calling, texting, showing up to school, asking me to visit," Coleman said. "It’s very overwhelming at first, but we are figuring out how to manage it. My priorities right now are school and getting better so next season it’s without a doubt I am as good as I know I can be. The recruiting process will only pick up from here and I’m going to try and enjoy it because you only go through it one time. But at the end of the day, I'm going to do what’s best for me."

Coleman had just finished up a basketball game with Lincoln East on Friday night, with his team posting a dominating win. Because it's hoops season, Coleman hasn't wanted to overload his January recruiting schedule, but he did have junior day event visits planned to Missouri (this weekend) and Nebraska (this weekend).

But the snowy weather wasn't cooperating with the plans to head to Mizzou.

"We had to postpone the Mizzou visit because the road conditions are terrible and we don’t want to risk it," Coleman said. As for the Nebraska visit, he knows the main thing he wants to learn from it.

"Just seeing how they teach their players and operate during a normal day."

A normal day for him these days is all sorts of busy. The messages keep coming, and that's not about to change for a prospect like him.
