Editorial Looking Ahead: What Does Rhule Really Have to Build On Going Into Year 4?

I am sorry, I get this is a big accomplishment....... but the failures of other coaches doesn't make this some resounding accomplishment.

Somebody needs to tell the person who writes the checks this.

See this lost its standing with me........

The easy answer to this is look at Indiana.

But I will say, I was fine with the building it the long way. My problems came in week 1 vs Minnesota where we saw coaching incompetence. Stuff that was not related to get better players, but simple strategy of the game was failing.

You can get better players, but if you can't manage a game it doesn't matter.
I can't whole heartedly dispute any of that.

Failures of the past have led to where we are now. Doesn't excuse Rhule's mistakes or lack of consistency within the program but his bowl appearances, while not resounding accomplishments, are still better than the norm over the past 15 years.

Indiana is a Unicorn. And it remains to be seen as to how long the dominance will last. Bottom line is Cignetti is a better coach then Rhule and perhaps everyone else coaching at the D1 level. Unless we are going to get him to come to NU... we might as well stay the course for just a bit longer. We know from the past that jumping ship from one coach to another has not boded well for NU.

Year 4 will be interesting. Rhule has been selling he slowly builds via developing younger players. We seem to need a lot of key transfers to start in year 4. Not sure what the pivot will be. Seems it has been we’ve been bad forever and went to back to back bowl games as the proof of concept.

Pelini was way better than Rhule.

The press conference of him trying to paint the season as progress with back to back bowl games and then jumping down a reporters neck for even saying the word “reset” was pretty hilarious . Especially when they’re bringing in 20 transfers and 2 new coordinators LOL

I’m just tired of the excuses. I actually liked his first team outside Sims. They weren’t great, but they played really hard and seemed tough play with an edge. Fast forward and we just get bullied by most teams with a pulse. I hope he goes back to getting the team to play like that inaugural season
