Making this it's own thread because this is by far the harshest I've seen any local media go after the Rhule regime. You've got old school NEB media guys in Gary Sharp and Bill Doleman (not exactly hot take artists) basically saying Satterfield should be fired mid-season. Then saying at least you could demote Satt to TE coach and hand over playcalling duties to Glenn Thomas.

This is the first time I've seen any of our older media go after Rhule. If you listen to the first 5 min, Gary Sharp sounds like he wants to fight Rhule ("You can't lose like that and then say 'I didn't see it coming' - that can't happen").

I recommend watching the first 5-7 min of this if this type of thing is cathartic for you. My main point is that I think Rhule has started his new era here w the media at Nebraska where he starts to get questioned a bit more (Callahan, Bo, Riley & Frost all entered this at one point). Anyway, I found it interesting.

Oh also....Sharp raised a good point in that the two biggest "buddy hires" Rhule made initially were Satterfield and Evan Cooper.

Interestingly enough, Rhule DID shitcan one of them - however, you could say he dragged it out & gave Cooper some extra chances.

But Rhule has at least fired 50% of his best buddy duo. Hopefully he fires the other 50% soon.

Surely Gary would’ve been happier if Rhule said that he did see this coming.

"I knew we were going to get corn holed that bad and didn't do anything about it."
Yeah I don't quite understand why people are saying that? I think one of our other radio guys was really hung up on that. I think like Washut or Sipple or someone was also very angry about that, can't remember who. But TBH nothing Rhule said in that press conference bothered me.

The terrible gameplan on both offense and defense bothered me way more than saying "I didn't see this coming."

Somewhat related…but I always get a kick out of the “WHY DON’T THE MEDIA ASK THE TOUGH QUESTIONS???” people, bc any HC with a speck of media training will be able to sidestep any “tough” questions with vague non-answers.

Not saying coaches should never be asked tough questions, but fans mostly just want them for personal catharsis. Very little real insight would likely be gained from it.

Yeah I think the presser was fine. Took responsibility, didn't throw the team under the bus, showed some humility.

Thank you...

Also, to clarify: when I said Rhule might be entering his next phase with the media, I am referring to the non-beat writers. The local radio guys, the recruiting site guys, the podcast show guys (Nebraska has a lot of this type of media).

You will not see the local beat guys act any differently. To your point, that's not really their role. But I do think all of our other media are entering that next hands-off phase.

When you got non-hot take guys like Sharp & Bill Doleman going "Satterfield is the wrong OC for Dylan, he needs to be fired mid-season"....you know the honeymoon is over for HCMR.

Just wait until he has to face the tPB writers. Can he take the heat?

He did reference our message boards last year....trying to remember what topic. he was like "contrary to the rumor out there on our message boards". Maybe something about Satterfield? Can't remember the topic.

Is satt gone after this weekend?
The more I think about it, I actually think it's possible.

They won't do it before the OSU game. If it's another offensive shitshow, I am actually starting to think it's possible. And just have Thomas sole playcaller/OC for final 4 games.

The reason Rhule would do it is, it's too risky to finish out the year like this. If you do this for another 5 games, you probably lose Barney, Fidone, might even lose Dylan. And you lose your other WR incoming recruits. I personally think Rhule has to show something on offense in the home stretch to (a) keep all those guys and (b) attract some game breaker WRs from the portal.

If you close out all final 5 games scoring 14 pts a game you risk A and B. So I actually think Rhule would fire Satterfield after the OSU game if he had to.

I am interested to hear tone of Damon and Ravi tomorrow. Those two have pretty much shut down anybody who calls in trashing Satterfield and act like he is a great OC. Same with any criticism of the WR group.
I think Damon is going to find that having a kid on the team makes it very difficult for him to be completely honest about his perception of any position group, player, coach, etc.

I have a very hard time believing Rhule would fire any assistants mid season.

It's probably not in his nature. But if you're Rhule you'd have to do something to quiet the natives (current skill guys + recruit skill guys) IF this poor offensive trend continues for the final 5 games.

I just don't know what you could do outside of firing Satterfield.

If you were Dylan, would you stick around here if we end the yr scoring 14 pts/game and Rhule just sits back and doesn't address it? I sure as hell wouldn't.

They’ve openly mocked anyone who has suggested Satt, Baby Gravy (McGuire) etc…are not cutting it.

They have a giant serving of crow to eat tomorrow as they have been smearing lipstick all over this pig.

Isn't Damon the radio guy for our FB broadcasts? He certainty won't say anything. He's a UNL employee.

Ravi OTOH will probably be pretty merciless. (I don't listen to their show - isn't he the more critical one? I could be wrong)

There will also be a big "They're still 5-2" crowd this week. Benning will be one. Tom Shatel will be another one. Shatel to his credit has been pretty consistent all year in saying that this team isn't very good. Dude never fell for the hype. Have to give him credit.

I guess will see on Ravi. He just follows whatever Damon says anymore.

Instead of blaming Satt or the McGuire they pretty much scapegoat Raiola every week. Not saying Raiola has been great, but he is a true freshman being asked to do some pretty impossible things by his OC and lack of playmakers around him.
