I’ll go Bill Callahan. Guy could recruit and I’m going with the hope he figured out how to hire quality coordinators to the staff.

You go with Billy C and you eventually end up with a rotten cultureless program that will implode upon itself. At least he would be competent at roster building though.

We saw the ceiling with Bo and it wasn’t high enough. He would also be a disaster in the new era where you re-recruit your entire roster every year.

I agree the recruiting under Callahan was insane top 10 offense most years. If only he could have found a good DC.

At the time Callahan was 1 year removed from coaching the Raiders in the super bowl and Nebraska was 2 years removed from playing Miami in the National Championship. He would never be able to recreate that and recruit at that level now.

I can definitely go for that. Otherwise Billy C’s recruiting was fueled on his recent appearance in the super bowl and Nebraska’s winning reputation. Niether of those things carry weight anymore.

I think something worth noting for all of these coaches is that it’s gotten harder for each subsequent coach. Solich and Callahan weren’t that far removed from an Alabama-like run.

I think Callahan demanded that his assistants recruit at a high level, but having Black Santa sure didn't hurt
