This is probably the best national video I've seen on Nebraska's side of the OSU game. Klatt really goes into depth about Raiola's development & where he needs to see improvement.

I've watched a bunch of national videos on this game, very few have given Nebraska any sort of credit for their performance. Fair play to Klatt for doing that & giving NU credit for their one week turnaround.

It has to be The Simulation™. It is the only explanation for how he can be so incredibly accurate until we are on the cusp of bowl eligibility. He has missed a concerning number of wide open touchdowns. Even our arm punters of the past were able to connect on a YOLO bomb somewhat often. Have we hit one since UTEP? Even that play wouldn't have gone the distance if not for a great effort by Neyor. All we have managed since then are DPIs on underthrown balls when guys are wide open if he drops it over the shoulder. He made those throws effortlessly in high school. There is no way any of this is actually happening. It's a computer algorithm.

This is by far my biggest concern with Raiola. Remember: when he was at Elite 11, the accuracy part of the competition was his weakest performance. And now you're seeing it in game, too.

The question is, can he fix it? I always think back to what Mike Leach said: that accuracy was the thing he couldn't really teach, either a guy's got it or he doesn't. (2nd vid below)

I actually appreciate Klatt taking a relatively hard line on this in calling out how many crucial plays Dylan has missed. DR is a big boy - you can treat him that way. I feel like our fans are too afraid to say it....so you forget that Raiola has missed a fuckload of relatively easy throws from the Illinois 2nd half on.

It's interesting to see Klatt just come out and say "Dylan hasn't been near good enough." Bc in our NU fish bowl, everything is Satterfield, McGuire or the WRs' fault. I feel like our media is afraid to say anything even remotely negative about Dylan. IDK of they're afraid of Dom or afraid Dylan's going to hit the portal? IDK

I think they do it with “he’s a freshman and is making some freshman mistakes” but you’re right that no local media thus far has been willing to go much further than that.

Yep. Exactly.

But as Klatt pointed out, it's actually the easy throws that Dylan has been struggling with (the layups). He's actually missing throws that even freshmen QBs can be expected to make.

He's hitting on the Mahomes crazy throws...but missing the layups. There's nothing wrong with calling that out.

Yeah, I just watched the video and Klatt nails it.

God damnit we are fucked aren’t we?

Damon and Ravi are both critical of DR but mainly in a defense of Satt kind of way. They say what’s not perfect about him but always caveat it with, “butt he’ll get better as he’s just a freshman.” Personally I want that caveat. I don’t want local media preaching his mistakes without adding a light at the end of the tunnel. Otherwise it will give a sense of hopelessness.

DR is the most effective throwing QB we’ve had since Ganz and he made a ton of mistakes as a 5th year senior. It’s exciting to see how we can grow between years 1 and 2 without getting lost on “why aren’t people shitting on him more!” Therefore, let’s keep that qualifier of him being a freshman when we highlight the things he’s done wrong.

- checks into too many screens
- errs on the side of overthrowing to the point of almost always overthrowing
- doesn’t trust his WRs in man coverage to make a play hence he sticks around in the pocket too long trying to find a wide open player
- doesn’t scramble often enough (hopefully that’s a changing trend)

But he’s a freshman and will get better.

If you don’t say anything again, I really don’t believe every one here would mind.
Not saying anything. Not saying he’s an inaccurate down field passer, not saying he can’t read a defense, not pointing out over the month of October ranked in the top bottom of big 10 qbs. Not saying anything like that today.

No because last year it was said that all we need is a serviceable QB that doesn't turn the ball over and we win 8 games.

Hell, we said that prior to this season.
We just need to face the reality that our aspirations will always be just one “what if” away.

The defense will regress exactly proportionally to how much the offense improves next year. The one score losses will continue.

I agree. Raiola has not played great lately. He makes some of those easy throws and the offense is doing pretty good. Raiola deserves some criticism, but it goes against the mob mentality that Satterfield sucks and it's all his fault.
