There is no reason we can’t if we find a good coach. For whatever reason Fred isn’t the answer here. Nebraska fans would definitely care a lot if we were similar to k-state in basketball.

I think Fred deserves one more year. His team was much improved from last year. If no progress next year ( NIT or better ). I’d be fine cutting bait with him.

He deserves an additional year, I agree. They were better, and if you had asked anyone at the beginning of the year what their goal for the year should be, most would have said to finish with a.500 record and be considered for postseason play.

There is zero history of success at NU, so nobody really knows how long it should take to turn NU around.

He's got some decent pieces coming back. But yeah it's the cost of buying a guy out for a program that historically sucks that likely stayed Fred's execution last year

There has to be some reason, though, right? I'm in my mid-40s—why have I been hearing the same thing that there is no reason NU shouldn't at least make the NIT almost every year and the Dance every few years?

I can't disagree that Fred deserves anything. If NU hadn't shown any improvement, he should probably be gone.

The closest P5 team I can compare to NU is Northwestern. NW just experienced its best season in program history. Should they have fired Collins for having five straight losing seasons prior to this one and having seven losing seasons out of 10?

Maybe Fred figured something out this year; maybe he didn't. I don't think giving him another year to prove "it" is such a bad idea. NU is not just another program when it comes to basketball. There is zero precedence to say NU should be this or that.

Fred will probably hang himself like you said, but NU might as well see if he can build off of this year. What does NU really have to lose besides another losing season?
