Tracking known commitment dates and general plans for Nebraska 2026 targets

Now that we're more than halfway through June it's worth knowing when Nebraska targets are set to announce commitments as things usually start flying around fast in the final few days before and after the last visit weekend of this part of the recruiting calendar.

Here's what we know so far:

Known announcement dates

June 20 — Tight end Luke Sorensen is set to announce his decision on Friday. The offensive recruit from Servite High School in California has planned on this date for awhile and locked it in again following the Nebraska visit at the beginning of the month. Sorensen also dropped Penn State from his visit plans and comes into the announcement choosing between Nebraska and Ole Miss. The Huskers are a heavy favorite here.

June 23 — Running back Jamal Rule told 247Sports earlier this week he's set to announce on June 23. The Huskers just hosted Rule which would seem to give Nebraska a possible edge, but Virginia Tech and Syracuse have also been pushing very hard for the running back as well. Nebraska has possibly missed out on other top running back targets so Rule might be a priority for EJ Barthel if there's a chance to lock him in the class.

June 23 — Defensive back Danny Odem, who has been very busy racking up airline miles as he's flown all over for official visits this month, makes his announcement on Monday. The defensive back has been to Auburn, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma already and is at Penn State right now and visits Nebraska this weekend. The feeling has been Nebraska is in a great spot, but Oklahoma impressed the defender early in the month.

July 1 — Wide receiver Larry Miles, who is expected to visit Nebraska this weekend, has a planned commitment date of July 1. The Huskers are getting a visit here, but Kentucky and Pitt are also in the mix for the pass catcher.

July 4 — Defensive back Darion Jones is announcing on Independence Day not just because there will already be fireworks but because it is also his mom's birthday. Nebraska has pushed hard for the defender, who has a brother on the team, but Cockeye has been the family team since as long as Jones can remember. Does family on a team or a family team win out? Jones has been to Lincoln and now goes to Cockeye City this weekend.

General announcement timeline — Offensive tackle Claude Mpouma told 247Sports he doesn't have a specific date, but plans to announce after his Nebraska official visit this weekend. Auburn and Florida are in this one with the Gaytors thought to be the leader right now.

July

— Running back Brian Bonner has told 247Sports he's looking at making his decision next month. The running back has made visits to Nebraska, Penn State, UCLA and Washington and appears to be closing in on making a decision. No date has been set.

"I want to commit in July, so we're working on setting up a date once I know where I'm headed," Bonner said.

— Linebacker Calvin Thomas has one last visit and then plans an announcement in July. So far Thomas has made visits with Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, SMU and will see Texas this weekend.

I'll have the full story later but Nebraska is definitely in the thick of it here. Rule loved his official visit, loves Nebraska being detail oriented and thinks he can maximize his ability with the facilities, strength and conditioning and the nutrition.

Said he thinks Barthel is a student of the game and believes the coach can get good performances out of his players because he'll put them in positions to be successful.

Feels he's a priority for Nebraska. Felt good about the whole visit weekend.

Kind of unique where he's visiting Michigan State this weekend but made it clear there's a top three (Nebraska, Syracuse and Virginia Tech) and the Spartans aren't in it. We'll see if the visit changes things but Monday, June 23 for an announcement.

I guess we will know what they think their chances are with Bonner if they take Rule's commitment on Monday. Unless they taking more than one RB.

I've seen speculation that they may take two, but looking at the room, that doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. I think you're right. It sounds like he is going to MSU because he hasn't been give the green light to commit. VT is probably his back-up. He needs to have MSU because VT scheduled this All-Name team guy as a late 6/20 OV after Rule took his OV to Nebraska:

13th player from Nebraska committed to a P4 school not named Nebraska. 6 just to Cockeye St. 2 more to Army and 1 to Northern Illinois.

Edit: Washington St. and Fresno St. are not P4 but are/will be in the new Pac 12.

I made a post the other day about none of the top recruits doing anything at the state track meet.

This kid actually did do something down there. 2nd in LJ, 8th in the 200, 3rd in 4x100.

He must just not be the same kind of dude his dad was, because he seems to be a solid athlete.

Wazzu isn't a P4, though. The PAC 12 is just two teams right now; next year they'll be what is being called the G6. 11 P4 teams on your list.

Noted, I didn't think that all the way through. Good to see that kids from Nebraska are still going to get a chance to play somewhere good even if it's not at NU though.

It would be better to schedule this out to be exact, but if you look at the top 4 teams in the B1G, almost all their commits are top 600 players in the country in On 3's composite ratings (about 87.50 and up).

That's clearly where we should be aiming if we want to qualify for the CFP regularly, and if you look at the OVs we had scheduled, most players fell into that (15 of 24, which percentage-wise would be just outside the top 4 today and similar to UCLA, Michigan and Washington. USC, Ohio St, Oregon and Penn St are 1-4 so far). Obviously, we haven't pulled those guys so far this year, but that is what we are targeting.

Nebraska has a lot of FBS commits, but only 3 - Thomalla, Jones and Jackson - are Top 600. Nebraska recruiting just won't "git 'er done".
