Must’ve been told no. Butler has to be the fallback hire right?

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to prefer an experienced DC - who has shown success at every stop - than promoting a position coach.

Been a big Rhule fan, but this starts the clock on his tenure. After the Satterfield debacle, he knew the score and still decided to hire a guy with almost zero experience as a DC.

Maybe he’s guessing right and hope he is, but a failure by making a hire this risky will not be forgivable.

I hate it now more than I hated the idea of it the last two weeks. Just bonkers to not get someone who is currently running a successful defense.

I guess I understand half of the defense leaving now.

If Rhule would have hired this guy 2 years ago...the passing game coordinator for one of the top NFL defenses nobody would have had a problem with this. But he's a finalist for the Bills job and doesn't get it and now people think he's tainted. Wild.

I don't think Butler forgot how to teach secondary play. Really seemed like something was off with the coverage calls v. what the rest of the defense was doing for most of the year (which seems more like a TW problem than Butler).

I understand that's a fans reaction. But I can't fault a guy that didn't get hired until June/July and was down basically 2 starters all year.
