Satterfield won’t be taking a pay cut. I could be wrong, but I believe he has a year left on his contract. If so, we have to pay him the contracted amount whether we fire him or he stays in another capacity.100%. I don't think we'll ever know who, if any we're interested. People seem to think all these people want to flock to Lincoln Nebraska but maybe that's just not true. By most accounts, the insiders on here said this was always the plan. I don't get the wait to announcement either, but it is what it is. I said this last week to the group but I heard that Dana did not want Butler. I don't know if that was complete made up bullshit or if Dana was talked into it to signing off or if Rhule didn't care what Dana thinks. No idea. I'm leaning towards my source projecting his thoughts on the info he gives. He did say the war chest was open to hire coaches so maybe that's why we're seeing AHC added. Hopefully a Special Teams coordinator and full time ST staffer are hired after the bowl game. Rbs, Db's coach? Who knows. I still can't figure out that Satt wants to willingly take a Paycut and stay here....
I wonder if you see him reworked onto a 3 year deal where he takes a pay cut now but gets like 2-3x what's he's owed in long term guarantees.Satterfield won’t be taking a pay cut. After the contract runs out, all bets are off. Honestly, I’m shocked he wants to stay with his family back in SC. I don’t see him voluntarily taking a pay cut to stay.
Would be interesting to see. Unless his family life is in the toilet, why would he want to be apart that long?I wonder if you see him reworked onto a 3 year deal where he takes a pay cut now but gets like 2-3x what's he's owed in long term guarantees.
But alternatively, maybe it's just better for everyone to overpay him this year

Yeah and if he fails we can all say “Fuck you JoBu. I do it myself.”That settles it
John Butler = JoBu
I think Rhule was trying to make a point: "Look at all the amazing candidates we got for this DC role, but Butler is so good he outshined them all!" As a way of bolstering Butler's bona fides as a candidate.why doesn't anyone believe it is possible Rhule actually prefers Butler to the external candidates who were interested?
Fans think every coordinator hire is Jim Knowles or Chip Kelly when more often than not it's poaching a Co-coordinator from somewhere or pulling an old stalwart off his couch after he got bounced at his last gig or promoting some dude on your staff.I think Rhule was trying to make a point: "Look at all the amazing candidates we got for this DC role, but Butler is so good he outshined them all!" That had the unintended consequence of getting the fans excited for who these candidates might be (they undoubtedly had bigger names than Butler and NU fans always value a big name hire).

I made the mistake of reading the twitter/X replies on some of the Husker fan accounts during the DC search. The amount of 60+ yr old RTDB NU fans going "Rhule better hire a big name" was truly hilarious.Fans think every coordinator hire is Jim Knowles or Chip Kelly when more often than not it's poaching a Co-coordinator from somewhere or pulling an old stalwart off his couch after he got bounced at his last gig or promoting some dude on your staff.
Ferentz's son used to be an OC household nameI made the mistake of reading the twitter/X replies on some of the Husker fan accounts during the DC search. The amount of 60+ yr old RTDB NU fans going "Rhule better hire a big name" was truly hilarious.
NU fans jerk off to the idea of "big name" hires for HC, OC, DC. Which is funny, bc absolutely no one can name the OC/DC at Oregon. No one can name the OC/DC at Gaetz St. I have no idea how those schools manage to have success without "name" hires. Must be voodoo or black magic or something, bc according to NU fans "name recognition" is the #1 indicator for a coordinator's success.
Irving,This “name” thing is a bit of a strawman, at least for this board. I haven’t seen anyone here saying that their problem with the rationale for John B is that we needed to go for a big name.
The coaches that seemed to have been getting the most traction were Symons and Arnett, whose names wouldn’t mean much to the masses in a press conference. They just happen to have a lot more experience running a defense.
I also don’t think having run a defense before is deterministic of being a good DC. It’s kind of like with other professions. I don’t think not having performed surgery before is deterministic of being a good surgeon. Not having fabricated steel or set power lines before isn’t deterministic of being a good blacksmith or lineman.Irving,
I don't think you're wrong. I also don't think having run a defense before is deterministic of being a good DC. Does it increase the probability? Maybe. But probably not tremendously.
Cordially,
Management
I’m not sure the surgery analogy is helping.I also don’t think having run a defense before is deterministic of being a good DC. It’s kind of like with other professions. I guess what I’m saying is that job experience doesn’t really matter when predicting the success of doing that specific job.
I'm not sure this is the analogy you want to use unless I'm missing the humor.I also don’t think having run a defense before is deterministic of being a good DC. It fits just fine. My point is experience doesn’t matter anymore, which is why I’m with everyone in saying that John Butler is a flawless hire and isn’t deserving of so much ridicule. You need to get on board.I’m not sure the surgery analogy is helping.
