Probably some stupid ass rule where you have to post the opening and wait so many days...The only question I have is why didn’t he just name Butler the dc right after White left if that’s the case?

That entered my mind, but I thought that was probably just for the head coach.Probably some stupid ass rule where you have to post the opening and wait so many days...
I think you actually gauge interest in the job regardless of whether you think you're going with Butler or not. Then there's negotiation on top. I don't think Rhule was expecting TW to leave. That entered my mind, but I thought that was probably just for the head coach.
I got the vibe from reading this message board White was gone. Also when he brought Snow it seemed that way too.I think you actually gauge interest in the job regardless of whether you think you're going with Butler or not. Then there's negotiation on top. aren't there HR requirements under state law the make that difficult? I think there has to be some kind of search prior to finally settling on a candidate. The only question I have is why didn’t he just name Butler the dc right after White left if that’s the case?
Idk. He made Holgerson the OC within the season.aren't there HR requirements under state law the make that difficult? I think there has to be some kind of search prior to finally settling on a candidate.
after last season everyone assumed he'd get an HC job after this season and be gone.I believe Butler has been telegraphed as the DC in waiting since hiring him.
I like this approach. Feels Saban-ish
I won’t downplay the job. He did at Penn State 2013 given the circumstancesYes or no - has John Butler ever coordinated a good defense?
true, but at the time he was a contractor, I believe, and it wasn't immediate, and there wasn't actually an opening. Not sure how all that ties into the rules.Idk. He made Holgerson the OC within the season.
. I don't think Rhule was expecting TW to leave.
After this year it felt like the shine had rubbed off TW regarding HC opportunities.after last season everyone assumed he'd get an HC job after this season and be gone.
I don't think he expected him to leave for a coordinator position. I also didn't get the sense Rhule wanted to force TW out.I got the vibe from reading this message board White was gone. Also when he brought Snow it seemed that way too.
A lot of this doesn't seem that strange/mysterious to me.
- We obviously struck out on other targets or it was bullshit.
- Hiring Snow as a AHC is not strange, he's been everywhere Rhule has as long as he's been a HC. Why are we assuming he's micromanaging Butler?
- I think Rhule wants a guy on defense he can collaborate with, who doesn't have "his own" defense but is willing to conform somewhat to what's on campus today.
- No one can answer this question outside Garrett and he probably doesn't even know the "why" behind it
Now these are some great counterpoints. I get Snow has been everywhere Rhule has - timing of the announcement is what I don’t get.why doesn't anyone believe it is possible Rhule actually prefers Butler to the external candidates who were interested? He worked with Butler for a season as basically an audition. He's known Butler for many years.
On your AHC point, I think that will become common with these much larger college staffs. Otherwise, the HC has too many things to handle, which makes it hard to fulfill the other responsibilities the job entails.
To say I’m all sold on Butler, would be a lie. But adding Snow definitely makes me feel better. Someday, the whole story may come out about who else was considered.I don't think he expected him to leave for a coordinator position. I also didn't get the sense Rhule wanted to force TW out.
That said, the way TW and Knighton are doing us in the portal who knows.
It's an interesting way to form a staff but this is a new age of college football. Now these are some great counterpoints. I get Snow has been everywhere Rhule has - timing of the announcement is what I don’t get.
Whether true or not, there’s been so much rumbling that Snow being in the room was viewed as controlling and turned off White. I think that leads to the belief that Snow is here to oversee the DC, and the AHC title now states that officially. I’m not saying that won’t work - but it’s strange you’re making a hire for the head of the D side of the ball that’s leading to an additional hire to head them up.
But I do agree, as staffs grow the AHC will become more common at this level.
Yeah. Lots of states have them including Arkansas which was part of Petrino's undoingaren't there HR requirements under state law the make that difficult? I think there has to be some kind of search prior to finally settling on a candidate.
100%. I don't think we'll ever know who, if any we're interested. People seem to think all these people want to flock to Lincoln Nebraska but maybe that's just not true. By most accounts, the insiders on here said this was always the plan. I don't get the wait to announcement either, but it is what it is. I said this last week to the group but I heard that Dana did not want Butler. I don't know if that was complete made up bullshit or if Dana was talked into it to signing off or if Rhule didn't care what Dana thinks. No idea. I'm leaning towards my source projecting his thoughts on the info he gives. He did say the war chest was open to hire coaches so maybe that's why we're seeing AHC added. Hopefully a Special Teams coordinator and full time ST staffer are hired after the bowl game. Rbs, Db's coach? Who knows. I still can't figure out that Satt wants to willingly take a Paycut and stay here....To say I’m all sold on Butler, would be a lie. But adding Snow definitely makes me feel better. Someday, the whole story may come out about who else was considered.
It’s funny, there was a poster on Rivals this weekend who claimed insider info that Butler was the hire. Most, including me blew him off. Who knows whether he really knew anything.
The one thing I know for sure is I hope FSU fails miserably next year and everyone is looking for a job.
