In-State Recruiting

Coleman, Noonan and the two already committed would be a good haul for next year. Ngoyi has some decent offers too

Anyone heard anything about this Scottsbluff OT? He played 8 man last year but transferring up to Scottsbluff this upcoming year. Early offers from KU, Cockeye State, NDSU

Interesting to see what Mickey thinks of Ngoyi physically looks like he has all the goods. Pitt already offered him so Whipple might be familiar with him too.

As for Knutson

A 2023 prospect with intriguing early season film is Mitchell (Neb.) offensive tackle Brock Knutson, who has a 6-foot-7, 270-pound frame that colleges will be drawn to and a multi-sport background that includes wrestling and track.

One of the schools that is in contact is in-state Nebraska who had him up for a on Saturday.

"The experience was unlike any other," he said. "It was way better than my first visit at Nebraska. Getting to go out on the field for warmups gave me goosebumps and the locker room was sweet. All the guys were super fun and talkative."

Nebraska has not offered yet but Knutson has their attention with the way he has played.

"They haven’t said a whole lot about offers, but they liked my film," he said. "Sean Dillon said 'I love your film. I am really impressed with how athletic you are for your size and you can run. I love how you can block in the run game and you're very disruptive at d-line."

Next for Mitchell are visits to North Dakota State on October 30th, Wyoming on November 6th and Cockeye State on November 26th.

Obviously Mickey knows a boatload about it more than my stupid opinion but I think we lock up Coleman and Ngoyi for WRs in this class and call it good. They look like guys that can develop and we need the positive Nebraska vibes in local recruiting. Add a dude or two from Omaha and the Noonan at DL who is a must get and we are golden there.

We don't need 4-5 guys for the WR room and the transfer portal can continue to plug holes when needed. Mickey basically ensures that will never be a problem. Let's then use our energy and focus on getting the best we can get at other positions from out of state. Just lock in on top targets and sell out for them. No need to scatter shot recruit any longer.

I think the portal has actually evened the playing field for Nebraska recruiting. I used to think we should just take 3-4 transfers a year and not upset the balance of the roster by constantly introducing new guys and upsetting people who think they've worked for a spot. No more. A guy can't be upset about us doing that if absolutely every other school is gonna do it too, which they are. Reality has set in and now in each off-season you aren't just competing with the guys still in your position room but with every dude at your position in the transfer portal too. Can't handle it? Head on down to UNK. It's harsh but starting spots just got much, much tougher to secure. In European soccer legendary manager Brian Clough used to recruit players while telling them that he will replace them with a better player the instant he can. The guy went on to win titles so you can't argue much with his method.

Also, for years we lost out on guys because we aren't located close to "the talented" areas (the southeast, Texas...etc..etc) We also used to flood the high schools with offers. More than almost all other schools in comparison. But if you notice the portal movements, guys aren't adhering to that much. (of course there are still the "I'm coming home" dudes) But, guys are going from Cali to Auburn and from Syracuse to North Texas. The map is wide open now and guys are landing in areas they probably never considered before the portal.

So my idea is:
1: Lock up locals as early as possible.
2: Then focus on a few out of state rather than spamming 300 offers looking for a bite.
3: Hammer the portal for top players from lower leagues and want away stars/opportunity seekers from rival leagues.

Other ideas?

That's a helluva frame to build on for a high school kid. Please tell me he's not "Nebraska nice" and has a little Richie Incognito in him. My hogmollie button will pop like a well done butterball turkey.

I’m currently in a 247 battle of the wills with Sam on metro area recruiting. I think Ruud has done an F- job and Sam thanks he’s been incredible. I’ll let you know how it ends up.
Ruud is doing great if the plan was to push Omaha guys to Auburn, OU, Oregon and Cockeye. Brilliant execution.

We didn't even get a visit from any. Great way to save those limited OV dates for last second JUCO dude spots in January.

4. Win games

I feel like they lose out on Noonan because he's a better fit as a 4-3 DE as opposed to a 3-4 OLB.

He just keeps saying he landed Betts, teddy, henrich and Hickman. 3 of those for were coming to Nebraska regardless.
And what about......Avante Dickerson, Xavier Watts.... everybody from Bellevue since Betts......I'm sure I'm forgetting some others.

Nebraska should be getting 85% of what grows here....not 40-50% with a big Omaha 0 for 0 with the highest rated dudes in positions of need.

Add in legacy keagan Johnson. Going 0-4 on the top four in state players this year and never even being in their top 10 is asinine.

He just tries his hardest to defend anything about this staff. Most normal people see thru his bullshit, but unfortunately 247 board is 97% mongo and full of people that swing from his sack.
