I’m still N on Rhule, but..

Idk think we just cut losses with rhule now and go get lane

I mean, sure… If you can get a commitment from him behind the scenes and somehow keep it quiet. But to just fire Rhule at seasons end in hopes we can land someone like Kiffin would be insanely stupid. In this coaching cycle and age of college football… Firing a coach after year 3 who has shown improvement (even if it’s not to the desired level) without a solid commitment and plan from another coach would malpractice of the highest order.

Now firing a coach after 3 years whose hasn’t had a winning season and is currently 2-5 is totally different ball game. You gotta fire that guy whether you have a plan or not.

I was thrilled for the Rhule hire. But I think I’m just about out.

The team is not very good in year 3. They have been flirting with disaster all season, dancing on the knife’s edge between decent and utter failure, and Fleck just methodically exposed every weakness on this team and in this program.

I do think Rhule has improved their mentality, which is the only thing standing between us and a bad losing season.

Satterfield was a bad hire. Holgorsen has been thoroughly underwhelming (someone please tell me what our identity is and what play we can rely on). JoBu was a risk that’s not paying off - we could have done what a serious program does and hired a proven college DC.

Yes, we could use more resources. Anyone could. But somehow Indiana found a way to win immediately. Somehow Lea is winning at Vandy. Somehow Minnesota beats us every year.

I’m willing to listen to excuses about why we can’t be in the playoff hunt at this point. I’m no longer willing to listen to excuses in year 3 about why we can’t be expected to score more than 6 points on a mediocre Minnesota.

Rhule sold us on the idea of “slow build” while we watched other programs that produce immediate results. But all we got was the “slow” with none of the “build”.

This thing is destined to end like all of the others, except that we will owe more money, and feel even more despondent about the chances of ever being relevant again.

And then we are going to have watch the pendulum wildly swing the other way and have to hire some ridiculous stretch because he had a cup of coffee once with Tom Osborne.

And then we‘ll do this again.

Would be nice, but even if Lane wanted to take over we still don't have the appetite/cash for Rhule's buyout. Sad times all around.

I really don’t think Lane would ever be an option at NU. I've chatted with his family and they have made it clear he won’t leave the south and that he strongly prefers warmer climates.

I would guess Rhule gets two more years and if it keeps going meh they renegotiate the buyout. Still so many years on it. We don’t have Texas Tech money to fix this imo. Best case he upgrades assistants and keeps improving the talent and depth of the team which was horrible when he took over.

Ok, I’ll just say it. Rhule needs fire Donnie and if Dylan transfers so be it. I think most of us don’t want Dylan to transfer, but I also don’t think he’s good enough to justify keeping Donnie.
At some point after taking 6-8 sacks week in and week out, don’t you think even Dominic and Dylan have to think, “OK, I love brother/uncle, but for the sake of Dylan’s health and future and the team, perhaps it’s time to go another direction at OLC.”

I mean, how mad could they be if we take steps to keep Dylan protected better?

What gets me is the number of times I see two OL (or an OL and a RB) blocking the same guy while the next over guy rushes in scott free. That seems like players don’t know what to do and 100% coaching to my uneducated eye.

Rhule dropping the tidbit about a young team/next season with a year 3 Raiola & if that schedule kicks our ass for 5 wins then idk how u buy in for more seasons under Rhule.

The thing I want to see is Rhule get a legit OL coach in here. It’s year 4 for uncle Donnie & even pouring in some NIL, it still looks like the shit we’ve seen for years. Bo’s OLs were by no means good but it’s saying something when his were better than the one you probably spent a lot more money on.

Rhule's problem is that he's too loyal to the players that were recruited from the previous regime, especially the OL and DL. It seems like the OL/DL on every other BIG team can whoop our ass in the trenches. If Rhule had any balls, he'd either let Uncle Donnie go or put him in an admin position. He's not a good OL coach.

On defense, we suck at tackling big time and always have since near the end of the Pelini era. We don't have a semi dominant DL that are even on the same levels as even Jared Crick was. Ty and Nash were ok, but they weren't great. I'm not sure how many times we saw a QB sneak out of a sack last night due to poor tackling or wrapping up.

EJ is a serviceable RB, but you can see why MN passed on him when their RB kept on running through our players on defense and took forever to take down. It seems like if someone farted the wrong way, EJ falls down.

I don't like being critical of the players, but I question the coaching or our talent evaluation. After last night, we are looking at 7-5 or maybe 8-4 at best for the reason. Unfortunately, Year 3 Rhule is going to be letdown.

I think most fans don't want Dylan gone but DO want Uncle Donnie gone. Couldn't Rhule bring in a real O Line coach and just make them "co coaches"? You get to keep Dylan, improve the oline play and then shitcan Uncle Donnie after Dylan declares at the end of next year? Hell pay some coach a mil, be way better invested then the likes of Pritchett for 1 mil!

DR is like a lot like some of Saban’s QBs at Alabama. Especially the 1st half of Saban’s tenure at Alabama. Those were not m0bile guys, but they were smart and had elite arm talent. You need an elite oline with that type of QB, and our oline is far from elite.
Can be a lesson in big boy football for Dylan. Yes that's your uncle. He clearly hasn't produced and needs to go. Are you going to quit because of that decision?

That definitely happened on one play I remember seeing in the second half. On the right side the OLB came down into the DE position and then the ILB blitzed off the inside of the OLB/DE. Football 101 says that the OT takes the OLB/DE and the RB takes the ILB on the blitz. Both the RB and the RT took the ILB on the blitz and left the OLB/DE open for a free rush to the QB. How the fuck is that possible? I get missing a block, but that’s not what happened at all. LT just completely fucked up and blocked the wrong guy. 😳
