Did you pull your post off a Zillow listing description?
Unfortunately, no. I overbuilt for this area/town way back in 2003 when I started building my house. I wanted it to be smaller than it is, and originally designed the plans to be about 60% of the size it ended up being. I got talked into going larger by family because "if you are going to build it, build it right" type of thing. If I had built closer to Bozeman, Helena or Missoula, I would have a market for this house for what it is worth if I sold (which I have considered doing for years now - selling). But the market here is just not good, so I have stayed where I am. It would have sold closer to what it is actually worth if I had put it on the market post covid, but pre fed raising interest rates. But then to sell and replace it, considering all housing prices have skyrocketed, and material cost to build new again are currently outrageous, really isn't getting me anywhere. We do own a 4 bed, 2 bath rental home in town we could move in to, but to say it is a downgrade, in a pretty crappy neighborhood, and just not large enough for all the people we have living with us now, is an understatement. But probably what we should have done, and probably what we should still do.
Again, not a brag in my previous post. Someone asked me a question and I answered. I overbuilt, period. That is on me. It is not some house you will see on TV, even though it is nice with a lot of sq footage, I did not include a ton of intricate or complicated designs, which always cost a lot more to build. I will some day move away from this shithole area (I live outside Butte MT), and move to an area with better climate, opportunity and things to do. Right now just isn't that time, mostly for family/kids reasons.
All the same, I do take some pride in having been able to build this house, almost all with my own hands. All 4 houses I have owned since graduating college at NU in 94, I built myself, and I don't think there is anything wrong with feeling that way about something one put a lot of blood, sweat (and sweat equity) and tears in to.
