Honestly, this season needed to be 10 episodes. Too much setup last night and should have capped it off with another big fight (if you know the books, you know which one) to help push the story along. It honestly felt like this season was just one big setup season that only had one very good episode in the middle.

With that said, they did have a lot to introduce and they did with these last few episodes, but it just seems like the pacing would have benefited with two more episodes.

I know some aren't high on this season but I have to say that it seemed to be written for deep lore book nerds like me.

The Harenhall storyline was fantastic. We will always have to wonder who Alys Rivers is and what it is she is trying to accomplish. What game is she playing? The whole point was to give Daemon his chance at being the "king" and he blows it. Everyone is listening to him and he gets to make the decisions and he can't manage the Riverlands, so how could he manage the entire kingdom? Then, with a nice added detail, he touches the GRRM faced tree and sees the rest of the story, thus giving him a new purpose. Classic break them down then build them back up psychological influence by Alys.

Also, the show created a Heleana character superior to the books in which she plays almost no role.

Is my timeline wrong remembering, or She’s long dead at this point in the book right?

If you’re talking about Alys, I only remember her in another role which happens later in the storyline and involves Aemond.[\spoiler]

I thought overall the season was extremely slow. Especially knowing it’s going to be 2 years before the next season.

talking about Heleana
In the book that character is barely involved in anything important at all. Only present for one major event which we saw in the first episode of S2. The show role has been expanded and it's been a great conduit to lore and a bridge to familiar themes mentioned in GoT and aKotSK.

was very disappointed we didn't see anything of consequence the final episode

I was hoping for the assault on Kings Landing being forced to divert to the Tyroshi Fleet
I agree. That episode was a setup for a season finale. We only have 2 years to wait and see what happens.

I didn’t know it was the finale until the ending wrap up sequence. It was clear it was setting up the cliff hanger.

Most GoT season finales are like that. The penultimate episode typically has all the action in it.

what in gawd dam shit geek Tarnation does this mean scatback Joe? i forgot to put on my wizard hat and clap my feet together today

Fleet of veterans of the step stone wars that know how to fight vs. Dragons...

Hugh Hammer has yet to reveal his true bastardy nature

Addam of Hull has yet to redeem the good name of bastards

Aemond still has 1 eye

The Graybeards have yet to go hard as a mother fucker in battle

The Lads have not yet risen

Pussy whipped Criston Cole is still standing

The Hour of the Wolf has yet to be enforced

I just started relistening to the dance section of fire and blood this week. I’m right there with you in the nerdiness

I finally binged the series and wrapped up last night.

I really liked it. I think TV fans have become entitled and can’t enjoy the story for what it is. Yes, GRRM paints a very detailed picture but the reality of making TV shows is that you need to cut content and make changes to fit the medium you are working with.

I would bet my mortgage they if the Lord of the Rings trilogy was made today people would be bitching that Tom Bombadil isn’t in the first movie, even though he adds absolutely nothing to the overall story.
