Golf Thread

here's a question for everyone - what hole was the peak of your golf career? Essentially, if you had to point to one single hole that was your peak potential as a golfer, what would it be?

I've never had a hole in one. I've had about a dozen hole outs on par 4s for eagle, including 2 on the fly, but the best hole I've ever played was a birdie.

I made a birdie on #18 at Sandhills from the tips. 467 yard par 4, up the hill. I went driver, 4w and made a 20 footer for a walk-off birdie

Hard to say but best golf shot I have is an albatross on 7 at Platteview. Should really be an eagle since it’s so short. Ironically on the next hole, a par 3 over water with OB left, my buddy hit one out off the tee and then dunked it for a par.

Most of the times I feel like I’ve reached my pinnacle when I take my medicine, punch out of trouble but still make par. Good golf isn’t making birdies. It’s avoiding the big numbers.

About a year after I picked up golf, I drove the green on a short par 4 (240 yards or so). Remember being so excited at an eagle opportunity or even a birdie if things don't go well.

I fuckin five putted for double bogey

Nothing noteworthy, no aces or albatrosses here...I guess going to Jacksonville back in 2000 with the sole purpose of getting par on #17 at TPC Sawgrass, took a 6 the first day but managed to par it on the 2nd try when the pressure was on. Mission accomplished.

I’ll go with pinnacle of starts - at Disney LBV… eagled first hole, birdied hole 2 & 3. Par on hole 4…Then I fell apart haha

Started eagle-eagle on a short 4/short 5 in a 9-hole quarterfinal match play team event down in Australia. Too bad it didn’t count as 4 under and instead we were only 2 up. Lost the match on the final hole.

One of my favorite moments: Teaching my boss the game of peppers many years ago this was my first four holes:
1. Holed out for birdie from ~100 (shanked an approach)
2. Double bogey
3. Holed out for Eagle from ~100
4. Tap in birdie

My parter and I were up 55 points after 9. We never played peppers again.

At the Haymaker Open in Cozad probably 20 years ago had the best even par round of my life (front 9). Saved the scorecard

Hole 1 - Double Bogey - Snap hook out of bounds and almost impossible to go out of bounds on that hole.
Hole 2 - Bogey - Easy , Short par 5 that I usually make birdie in my sleep.
Hole 3 - Bogey - Par 3
Hole 4 - Double - Snap Hook OB into the cornfield.

+6 thru 4. Not feeling great at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hole 5 - Drain a 40 footer down the hill for birdie on the Par 3 - +5
Hole 6 - Snap Hook of the tee (again); lay it out to 100 yard sign. Knock it in for eagle. +3
Hole 7 - Good Drive, 20 yard short Birdie +2
Hole 8 - Good Drive, Wedge Birdie +1
Hole 9 - Good Drive, iron Birdie E

Shot 69 for the day -2. Uncle bought me in the Calcutta for big dollars. Got super wasted at the town event later that night. 79 the next day in the Championship Flight. Worst hangover I have ever felt on a golf course. Puked on 1 & 7 tee box.

I'm sure Scheffler has many similar stories, but at my FIL's course here in Dallas at the beginning of the year, he made a 5 on number 10 (which is not a difficult par 5) and then proceeded to make 8 straight 3's to shoot 29.

My peak was more a set of holes.

Couple years back I was playing at Firethorn for a men's stag event. I started out Double, Bogey, Bogey. On the fourth hole I hit a poor tee shot and left myself short sided above the hole on the par 3. I hit a perfect pitch shot that landed right where I wanted and I got up and down and proceeded to play the last 15 holes at even par. Including birdieing two of the top 3 handicap holes and lipping out a birdie putt on the other.

Shot a 75 which was a 1.9 index from the tees we played.

I won some nice money in the skins game.
