Honestly a huge part of it is actually using your brain. The first three years I started playing my entire thought process was “what club will get me as close as possible to the hole?” Now if I’m 240 out I think about what shot I reliably hit that will put me 50ish yards out instead of trying to mash something and likely slicing the shit out of it into some trees. If I take five seconds to think about the strategy of an approach shot on each hole I play significantly better.
