After losing Duce Cheasnut and Ja’had Carter to the transfer portal this offseason, things were looking bleak for the Syracuse secondary. However, Dino Babers has rebounded, picking up two DBs from Nebraska. After finishing second on the team in tackles last year, starting safety Myles Farmer entered the transfer portal a few weeks ago. This was due to the Georgia native being suspended indefinitely.
New Nebraska head coach and former Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule didn’t give any specific reasons for the suspension but said it was for a failure to adhere to team standards. That wasn’t the first time Farmer had been suspended. Last year, before the game against Michigan, Farmer was suspended after being arrested for drunk driving.
Despite the off-the-field issues, though, Dino Babers has decided to take a chance on the power five starter. This could be because Farmer’s old DB coach at Nebraska Travis Fisher joined the Orange coaching staff this offseason. In addition, former Syracuse defensive coordinator Tony White is now the DC at Nebraska. So, Dino Babers could have more insight into what led to Farmer leaving the program.
