Everyone thinks Wisconsin job > than Nebraska job

I have no problem dealing with the brutal truth of Nebraska's suckiness now as a program... but I just don't see the Wisconsin job as that much better?

1. Milwaukee area doesn't turn out THAT much elite talent. WI is not FL, TX, CA, etc.
2. Wisconsin has worse fan support (they're stadium was half full toward the end of last year)
3. Facilities are among worst in B1G (they're fixing that now, I know)
4. Their NIL is less organized than ours
5. Their boosters have less $$$ than ours
6. Their academic enrollment requirements are MUCH stricter than ours
7. They have no national titles/leas history than us


Wisconsin is 10000000% a better program right now and has been for a while. But for this next hire, I don't see it being that much of a better job. Without NIL I'd say yes, clearly a better job, but with NIL I don't see it as that much of a better job.

I'm kind of surprised at these lopsided results. I think the quality of job is largely equal in CFB 2023 terms.

I'm sure the Mandels and Wolkens will release their smear pieces in the coming weeks about why Wisconsin is such a better job than DONU but I suspect if you took a poll of D1 corches rather than Northwestern journalism alum geeks about where they'd rather be the head corch, it would be DONU.

plus if you really think about things, Wisconsinites are among the worst people on planet earth and I have no clue who would want to live amongst them

I think this might be correct.

BTW to clarify - I'm not one of these NU homers that still thinks it's 1995 and NU is a cadillac CFB program. We're not anymore, I totally get that. I think pretty much every B1G/SEC school that is in FL, TX, GA, OH or even OK and MI are easier places to win than Nebraska. I'm fully aware that NU is down the pecking order these days - I just don't see Wisconsin as having that many program advantages to Nebraska, in fact they are below us in a lot of key advantage areas.

Wisconsin's BIG advantage over Nebraska has been their program stability over the last 20 yrs and the machine Alvarez built. But that stability goes out the window when you firing coaches mid-season with 75% winning percentage.

Is the state of Wisconsin turning out a shit ton of 5* HS players that I'm unaware of? Wisconsin has traditionally had worse recruiting classes than us these past 15 yrs (up until a couple of years ago). The refrain is that NU is in the middle of nowhere but it's not like Wisconsin is that much better off. IDK, I must be missing something.

Nebraska is a better job cuz i think we’ve turned the corner on expectations but Wisky fans want to get over the hump & anything under 10 wins probably will be scrutinized. Last year they had fans frustrated cuz Chryst was supposed to be the Russell Wilson guy & they’d finally have a QB but instead Mertz is a bust, Cockeye/NW winning the division, & they are not dominating Minnesota. Chryst was wasting their time but the next guy will be expected to win the west every year & the conference’s HCs is much more competitive than the fat Bret years.

I get why we're doing this, but it seems pretty irrelevant. Wisconsin knows who they want, they are giving him a try with training wheels on to make sure it's not a calamity before making him the head man, so whether Nebraska or Wisconsin is the better job is about as relevant as whether Nebraska or Alabama is the better the job.

Nebraska has proven with the right guy recruiting can be very good, easily better than anyone in the Big Ten west. The geographical disadvantage thing is garbage. That’s obviously a huge advantage.

I'm just wondering if anybody remembers the discussion we had on TpB about how early signing day, the transfer portal and NIL have changed the calculus on firing and subsequently hiring a head coach?

Many of us said that the new environment with the early signing day and windows for the transfer portal now meant that if you are gonna make a change that you need to do it early and then make your hire so that you can save a recruiting class and re-recruit / supplement / purge your roster with the portal.

What Nebraska, Colorado and Wisconsin have done will be the norm now, as far as timing goes. Anybody firing their coach and starting a search at the end of Nov or early December is making a mistake IMO.

These polls are a classic case of recency bias. Nebraska has better facilities and more money to spend. Wisconsin has historically been cheap with coaching salaries, and I think they are hoping to get Leonhard on the cheap.
