Everyone thinks Wisconsin job > than Nebraska job

Wisconsin is easier to get wins right now, I don't think anyone is seriously questioning that. But long-term, Nebraska probably still has the higher ceiling.

It's more than a little annoying to see writers/pundits having no negative reaction to Chryst being fired simultaneously citing Pelini and Solich as reasons that the NU job is harder.

First, there is little functional difference between the Chryst situation and the others. In fact, the Chryst one is likely worse, because Wisconsin essentially never reached any higher ceiling before him. NU knew it could win national national titles when it said goodbye to its guys,

But more importantly, the rest of major college football voted with its wallets and teams on the quality of Solich and Pelini. No other P5 program was ever willing to hire them as a head coach. But somehow Nebraska -- which still wants to win titles -- is unreasonable for firing guys no one else was willing to hire.

I know the media/fanbases love clowning Nebraska for Frank and Bo, but no one has a good answer for what you do with a relatively good coach when you're almost certain their best days are behind them.

Also, IIRC Bo starting the national TV blowout humiliations in 2012 at the B1G championship game (gave up 70 to Bielema). So Pelini had 3 solid yrs of Nebraska fans KNOWING that every big game was going to be a humiliating blowout. And they always were BTW.

Chryst basically had 2 non competitive games in 2021 and 2 this year and Wisconsin boosters were like "GTFO." It's amazing.

The more I look at it, I'm assuming that Leonhard must have went to the AD and said "I'm taking one of these HC offers".... there's no earthly reason to do this otherwise.

I have no problem dealing with the brutal truth of Nebraska's suckiness now as a program... but I just don't see the Wisconsin job as that much better?

1. Milwaukee area doesn't turn out THAT much elite talent. WI is not FL, TX, CA, etc.
2. Wisconsin has worse fan support (they're stadium was half full toward the end of last year)
3. Facilities are among worst in B1G (they're fixing that now, I know)
4. Their NIL is less organized than ours
5. Their boosters have less $$$ than ours
6. Their academic enrollment requirements are MUCH stricter than ours
7. They have no national titles/leas history than us

Wisconsin is 10000000% a better program right now and has been for a while. But for this next hire, I don't see it being that much of a better job. Without NIL I'd say yes, clearly a better job, but with NIL I don't see it as that much of a better job.

I'm kind of surprised at these lopsided results. I think the quality of job is largely equal in CFB 2023 terms.

It only matters what coaches think in reality. Chryst taking the reduced buyout of 11 million compared to the 19.5 million doesn’t look good for Wisconsin compared to what Turd did giving Frost the 15 million when he could have easily waited and give him 7.5 million.

I would really love to hear what a top HC felt like was a better job. They'll never go on record of course, so we'll never know.

But if, say, Mark Stoops got the full sales pitch for both schools, I'd love to know his actual thoughts on which job is the better job. Or a Matt Rhule.

Again, they'd never speak on this, so you'll never know. I'd love to hear their actual opinions on it though.

One of the guys on Cover 2 podcast (I think it was Tom Fornelli or Bud Elliot, idk) said he talked to five D1 coaches and 4 of the 5 said Wisconsin was the better program. Don't bite the messenger.

Nebraska is better all the way around besides being in a fish bowl. Wisconsin isn’t even doing NIL.

The funny thing is one of those cover 3 guys were saying Nebraska might be the number 2 job in the BIG a few weeks ago because Michigan wasn’t utilizing NIL.

To be fair one of the three on the podcast did think Nebraska was the better job, but the other two thought Wisconsin was better.

We are probably going to find out pretty soon with the hires even though what might happen on paper might not be what’s best in the end.

My Cockeye coworker said it perfectly in my opinion:

Which is a better job? Nebraska, no question.

Which would I want to walk into right this second? Wisconsin, because of their stability.

I do believe that if anything strange comes out about why Chryst was let go, it will significantly effect their search if they AREN'T just handing the keys to Leonhard.

I get why we're doing this, but it seems pretty irrelevant. Wisconsin knows who they want, they are giving him a try with training wheels on to make sure it's not a calamity before making him the head man, so whether Nebraska or Wisconsin is the better job is about as relevant as whether Nebraska or Alabama is the better the job.
right...but we ARE a better job than Bama. And that helps me sleep at night.

I feel like something else had to have happened. Seems like a giant gamble to fire Chryst just to hang on to Leonard.

If the decision was made without Alvarez' involvement I could see a new AD deciding to go in a different direction but that would be surprising.

I'd argue most coaches do not know the pluses and minuses and just go off recency bias..
The point is though that a HC wouldn't make a decision based on that. They'd tour the facilities, get the full sales pitch from each AD, see the blueprints, etc. Then they could make their assessment.

But I disagree a bit. HCs know who is a player in NIL and who isn't. They hear about it bc we all recruit the same players. They know NU dropped $650k at the drop of a hat for Ochaun Mathis. They also know that Caleb Williams considered Wisconsin but the Badgers had no NIL infrastructure and were caught with their pants down. I guarantee you Aranda, Stoops, Kiffin all know this.

We are an extremely popular punching bag. This should shock exactly no one.

(But we are better than WI)
This^^^^^^^

People say “it’ll change when we win”. Guess what, it’ll be worse. Other programs have had rogue players and never came close to the crucifixion we went through with Lawrence Phillips.
This is part of the reason I want Mickey.
Does the woke media dare bag on an African American?

Could you imagine if we got a bunch of individuals with Down Syndrome to be our coordinators on his staff? Fucking untouchable by the media then.
