Football Emmett Johnson All-America Honors

@V-Doub I nominate @Ext. 55 for the Golden Dittman after reading his ranking

which one of them would you want to have running full speed at you and you're the last defender to tackle them...

Me:

What do you think was the difference maker for EJ this year opposed to last year?
Buddy of mine went to a football camp in high school. Messing around before it started they had like 20 people line up opposite LP by himself and not one of them could touch him.

On pure talent, LP is probably just right behind Rozier. He was drafted 6th overall; Ahman Green was a third round draft pick for reference. LP had his issues obviously but he’s in a totally different class IMO.

LP’s size is what makes him different than the other great backs we’ve had. He was the same size as Adrian Peterson, but a much smoother runner and got into his cuts seemingly effortlessly. Probably a bit faster than AP too. AP was a more violent runner and probably shed contact a little better than LP.

I don't know about that. AP was pretty fucking fast. Probably the best comparison though if LP wasn't so fucked up in the head.

IDK, When LP had a hole and hit accelerator he often times looked like he was still accelerating 60 yds down field as he crossed the goal line. But I do believe AP ran in the 4.3s during his NFL combine. I can’t remember what LP ran? Nevertheless the point was mostly that his size is what, IMO, makes him a little better than Rozier, Green, AA or any other great Husker back.

It is bananas to me that some thought he was a mediocre back. I know he got better as time went on, but his shiftiness has shown throughout his career and he doesn't have "breakaway" speed, but he's still got the speed to make a long run and potentially score as we saw this year.

Maybe. I think my order would be.

Mike R
Lawrence P
Ahman G
Ameer A
Emmett J

Ameer and Emmett would be tied. Would be interesting to see how those top 3 backs would have faired behind Ameer and Emmett's OL's and offensive system.
I might switch AG and LP but this is solid.

No joke, I was at the OU game where AP came back from injury that week. He wasn't human.

There was a play where Carriker (one of the strongest dudes we had) wrapped him up in the backfield and AP dragged him for 5 yards. Freaking dragged Adam Carriker. WTF

I was there as well. Sucked to watch as a Husker fan but as a football fan he was incredible to watch that day.

That is crazy.

LP
Ameer
Ahman Green

Actually shocking to me.

Who would you take in your backfield? The three aforementioned or EJ?

I know who I wouldn't take. No insult to EJ. Being mentioned with those guys is props in itself.
Being an all American has as much to do with your comp as it does how good you are.

EJ is a very good 3 tool RB. 5 tool being speed, acceleration, lateral movement, size and hands. EJ has great acceleration, lateral movement and hands. Only lacks the size to punish defenders, but he definitely plays bigger than his size and elite break away speed. But like you said, still fast enough to get you big runs.

I think he could have a really good pro career if he stays healthy. I hate to say that, but at less than 200lbs you can’t ignore it either.

He definitely almost always gets tackled going forward and can fit into extremely small windows.

But yeah, size is probably the biggest knock.

His freshman year at OU I watched him run & said he was already the best RB right then at any level of football.

Goes in the pantheon of running backs with the greatest pure physical abilities of all-time. Bo Jackson probably leads that class, then dudes like AP, LP, Barry Sanders, Herschel Walker, Eric Dickerson, Chris Johnson, Darren McFadden, Saquon, etc.
