EJ Barthel - Running Backs

Damn, this guy is a big downgrade from Bryan Applewhite. If Frost hired this guy last offseason there would have been riots.

Don’t worry though he’s bringing this 190 pound white running back with him to the Big Ten. 2 star recruit who ran for 500 yards against a fuckin FCS schedule this year. Ya’ll have lost your fucking marbles. Why do we do this every time.

Here's the truth. At the end of the day, you not I have any clue how good or bad a coach is. You can sit there and butch all you want or try to say "if Frost did this..." all you want. As I said in a different thread. Rhule has way more documented success identifying and developing coaches than anyone we've had in that seat since TO. Maybe cool it on your played out shtick and see what the product on the field actually looks like.

We agree on lots of football stuff (not Rhule though)
I over reacted to Wiscy getting #2ndChoice and now hating Rhule is my shtick i guess. These hires fuckin blow so far tho real talk. I can talk myself into Knighton maybe

He was a true frosh in a loaded RB room. Da fuck did he expect?

Is he saying he’s better than Grant? I hope he’s cut for that tweet alone. He’s from Minneapolis and Fleck even passed on him
You mean the Grant that kept trying to bounce shit to the outside when there were holes to get North South? One of my friends was a 90's RB that started and he consistently complained about Grant and how he missed his reads.

You certainly can look at guys resumes, track records, and history of how things have went. How does it usually go when we hire novice coaches to cut their teeth in the Big Ten?

It’s ok to not sniff Rhule’s farts about everything. These guys better be pulling in top 20 recruiting classes if that’s the route we are going. We’e all seen this shit before.

You mean the Grant that ran for 900 yards behind the worst fucking OL in history? No shit he had to cut to the outside, DTs lived in our backfield.

Do you know anything about the new RB coach’s background or are you just being a tard again?
Who else was biting their teeth to hire him? Why’d he end up at Uconn after being let go by the Panthers?

I stand by Applewhite being a better coach

Once again, you are trying to compare inexperienced Head Coaches in Pelini and Frost, who had no experience identifying or developing Assistant Coaches to Rhule, who has a track record of it. Kevin freaking Cosgrove had tons of experience in the Big Ten...how'd that hire work out? You don't know shit about these coaches, it's just a knee jerk uninformed reaction.

I'll reiterate what I said in the other thread

Barthel was DPP under Franklin. He was lead recruiter on many of their a couple of their big time prospects including Micah Parsons. Dudes legit.

Him and pot roast are going to get paid very little bit do a ton of fucking work.

How many of those yards came against shitty defenses at the beginning of the year? How'd he do in his last 5 games?
He went 21 for 115 against Minnesota and then only got 40 combined carries the next 3 games. Whip got pass happy

Moving into a position coach role was a promotion for him. He also has deep ties to the east coast and NJ especially. New Jersey is going to be a pretty important strategic focus for Rhule and this hire adds a lot of value. Applewhite’s Texas ties are also pretty redundant given the rest of the staff.

Applewhite is probably “better” head to head given relative experience levels, but not necessarily the better fit for what Rhule is planning overall.

One year. He was at Penn State for one year. Figured that’s relevant.
