He isn’t though is the thing.

Satt is trash, but Dylan has not been good going on a month now.

It's a combo of things. Satt is trash, opposing DC's (and players) have to be laughing at how easy it is to read Satt. Since all our plays are telegraphed (and no adjustments made by Satt despite them obviously needing to be made), that puts the onus on a true Frosh QB to "fix" things. Terrible recipe for disaster.

Our WR's generally run poor routes, but part of that is probably that most of our routes are known before the snap. So WR's have no confidence, our true frosh QB is now skittish to even throw because shit is sniffed out, teams have figured out bringing high pressure rush and stuffing our receivers at the LOS is what works.

That being said, DR is really shook now. He was going through progressions better than any QB we have ever had the first 4 games of the season. Yes, against lesser competition mostly, but that QB just didn't suddenly forget how to do that, he got shook and shook bad.

It all falls back on Rhule for hiring Satt and Satt for being a terrible OC. This is how you ruin good young players confidence and stifle their growth. Now we are looking at 3 tough remaining games with an OC and HC who are in over their heads. At least with Tony White you feel like if he was just allowed to coach his way things would probably work out, but with Satt there is no hope. I have no idea if Thomas is any good (probably not), but what we have going now is gawd awful. That being said I doubt any major changes are made these last 3 games, and at this point it would be a minor miracle if we pulled off one of those games as a win, so a 4th game (bowl game) is most likely out of the picture now also.

Raiola is really struggling with his reads right now, looks and is playing like a Freshman. Many of our offensive woes are directly tied to Raiola's poor play.
Honestly, it’s probably a good thing he’s being humbled. The kid seems like a hard worker but there was a lot of gay at the start of the season. He bought into a lot of his hype and tried way too hard to act like Mahomes. It was creepy.

Bring him down to earth and actually try to improve

Dylan was too confident about starting right away. That's it. I'm glad we have him but he should have been more humble and learned.

People like Sipple have really not done him any favors. He has a LOT of room for improvement, and doofuses who have never played football gushing about him being Brett Favre against shitty zone defenses hasn’t helped.

Dylan is a stud QB who's been playing hurt for several games, and has a subpar OC who doesn't help him out much, and an underperforming WR room.

He's also still a true freshman, and there's a reason most true freshmen QBs don't start. Get him healthy, get him a coherent OC, and his second year will be yuuuge.
Accurate

Satt is ass.
Doesn’t really excuse Raiolas god awful performances. He is mind fucked before he even snaps the ball. He has no idea what he’s looking at. He has missed a lot if open WRs.

He’s “mind fucked” because Satt is so bad at his job opposing DCs know what he’s running before we even line up. My evidence for that? Ohio St’s 20 year old DB that picked the ball off to end the game told us that.

Dylan is by far the best freshman QB in the nation. He’s got a ton to learn, yes. But he made some NFL throws yesterday and anyone who’s watched football for 5 fucking minutes could see that.

I told @Faux Sean Callahan offline last year that that most perplexing thing about Dylan’s decision to come here was that he was okay playing for Satterfield. Brian Ferentz coaches last year’s offense to a bowl game and that’s not hyperbole.

The good news is that the issue is very simple to fix. Let’s hope Rhule fixes it and we can move forward with an offensive coordinator that we all know doesn’t suck.

Rhule’s gotten some very easy decisions wrong since he’s been here:

Jeff Sims
Hiring Marcus Satterfield

You aren’t concerned about some of the position coaches on offense? I’m also concerned about our offensive line next year. Our best lineman are gone. The running backs suck. Our receivers are soft and tight end has been nothing special. Even with a new OC things might not gel over night plus I doubt Rhule makes the right hire anyways. I was hoping Glen Thomas would be a difference maker with the game plan and helping develop Raiola, but maybe he isn’t worth a fuck either.

I’m concerned about the man at the top of the offense, period. Coordinators matter. Tony White has taken inexperienced guys and made them look great. I would venture to say the same can be said when you hire the right guy on offense.

You could convince me on other things, but right now offensive coordinator has my full attention.

I just posted a long thread diving into some historic stats on Satterfield.

He’s been an OC for 6 seasons now counting this one.

His average finish in total offense is 97.

This year’s offense ranks 97.

So this year’s offense is exactly what we can expect from him crazy enough. He is performing exactly how history would suggest he would.

You don’t have to sell me on Satterfield. I thought he was a shit hire from day one as well as some other assistants. It showed me Rhule didn’t get it when he had a big pool of money and overpaid some of these guys when he could have got a lot better return for the money.

The idea he paid him top ten money, empowered him to go get Jeff Sims, and then told us all how Sims was an NFL talent and people in the NFL told him to get him should tell you what you need to know.

Everything is on Rhule as he’s the head coach.

Satterfield getting the job here is as well. Hopefully that is remedied soon. Satt has proven that he’s no better than what we are seeing this year on offense.
I’m not 100% convinced Rhule will move on from Satt and if he does I think it will just be Thomas in charge
