Tbh it’s year 3 and we are having these conversations. That’s somewhat indicative of where things will ultimately go at some point in the next two to three years.

Not really you’re going to have a faction of the fan base talking like this regardless of who the coach is . People wanted tom gone during the seasons he was winning championships . Just the nature (albeit a stupid one) of the business . Some fans are emotional & frankly stupid AF .

If PSU makes a serious run at him (which I find highly unlikely) I would not want NU to outbid and give him an extension.

I also don't think you can fire him at this point, both due to the $$$ and it being year 3. It would also be a monumentally bad year for a coaching search.

Yes, I would like Matt Rhule to stay at Nebraska.

I like Rhule. He is a wonderful ambassador for the program, he has a plan/process that he believes in and follows, and he is a good, albeit flawed, football coach.

That said, my desire to have him stay has less to do with Rhule himself and more to do with wanting stability within the program. In the NIL/Portal era, a head coach choosing to leave more than likely leads to a roster exodus and recruit decommits. I realize the same is true for whatever coach we end up hiring, but the massive reshuffling of all aspects of the program is more likely to lead to a step back than a step forward, at least in the short term.

I picked yes. I like everything he does off the field as far as structure and all that bullshit goes. Upgraded coordinators. He needs to self reflect in Butler and Donny. Also roster management. But you can see direction and overall program management and PR is in a good spot. He’s a good face of the progrum. If he can get to 8-9-10 wins yearly, then stick with it. But we might need a scrambli-boi at qb.

I’m rambling and idk what the best answer is.

But yes, because the book on Rhule at NU is not closed yet, and I do not want another complete reshuffling of everything yet again. Rhule has us in a better place than we have been for about 10 years now. Not a good enough place yet, but better than it has been and there is at least some momentum with the 27 crootin class.

Also we don't really want to be coach hunting in a year where there are so many big program HC openings. Heck, if Rhule does go to PSU, then the best bet would be to try and get Franklin. I don't think we'd do better than Franklin, frankly (hah).

If I had to choose now it’d be no. Obviously anything can happen but based on the results this season so far I’m expecting us to fall flat in the latter half yet again. Combine that with the wasted first season from the Sims debacle, bizarre game management decisions that have directly cost us games (admittedly there hasn’t been a whole lot of egregious instances of this lately) and bad assistant hires, I wouldn’t mind a re-roll. IMO stability in modern college ball is overrated - letting a subpar coach fester too long just makes it harder for the next guy and it’s easier now more than ever to flip a roster.

Really should’ve been a 3rd option: Need to see the final 5 games

Right now, I voted yes (mostly cause undecided wasn’t an option) but I could see that opinion changing completely if these last 5 games are a disaster and we go 1-4 or 2-3 and it doesn’t look competitive at times…

I won’t personally be calling Rhule to be fired, but that seat is gonna be scorching hot next year if we have another late season meltdown.
