Next staff needs to bring established winning players with them and needs to actually practice physicality, not just preach it

I honestly can’t believe how many of frosts players we still have to watch take terrible angles on D and get their shit pushed in on the OL every week in Year Three

Voted yes because stability is better and we are all well aware that the next hire will likely be terrible.

But if he does go, it could also be a wash. I think there’s a good chance that he’s going to have to replace the coordinators again.

With next year’s schedule and struggling Holgs/Butler, we are likely to find ourselves hitting the soft reset button again in November 2026.

So, basically we will be retooling no matter what.

Yay.

Really should’ve been a 3rd option: Need to see the final 5 games

Right now, I voted yes (mostly cause undecided wasn’t an option) but I could see that opinion changing completely if these last 5 games are a disaster and we go 1-4 or 2-3 and it doesn’t look competitive at times…

I won’t personally be calling Rhule to be fired, but that seat is gonna be scorching hot next year if we have another late season meltdown.

I agree. And next years schedule is tough. Way tougher than this seasons.

If we lose most of our last 5 games, which is possible, it's gonna get ugly around here and in Husker nation. With next seasons schedule staring us in the face.

I'm curious what the casual fan must think of all this. They have been told over and over that "Year 3" was going to be Rhule's year. If they come limping in with a 6 or 7 win season what's the reaction going to be.

Does NU really need to give Rhule an extension rn when his contract runs through 2030 with a $50mm buyout?
I really hope not, but I was starting to worry that there was a notion that we needed to “lock him up” to keep him from leaving for Penn State.

I’m not extending him till seasons end. I can’t control what Penn st does and more money won’t stop it if both parties want it to happen. And furthermore, if he doesn’t get at least 9 wins I’m not extending shit. 8 or less wins… your current contract will do for now.

He’s already as locked up as possible unless they make his leaving on his own accord penalty way higher than the current $5mm. Or are coaches contracts now generally much longer than +5 seasons into the future?

Cignetti was extended through 2032. He also received various bonuses (or bonus possibilities) and an increased salary:

I know he might be an outlier, but this was my biggest concern.

While I don't think Rhule will have as much rope as Frost, It will be interesting to see how long fans will move the goalposts for him if things start to go south.
I think he has two more seasons after this one to make it happen but just a guess.

Yes only because of all the high-caliber openings and limited pool of good coaches available.

Rhule has made a lot of shit hires for his staff. Ones that many of us were aware were shit before the season started it was that obvious. Kudos for at least being willing to replace them, but sans the Ekeler hire I do not trust his ability to hire a winning staff that can get us to the playoff right now.

The answer is no. Giving him an extension right now would be incredibly stupid. Would be a monumental fuck up if the rest of the season pans out poorly. And he sure as shit doesn’t deserve one after that showing. I’m not sure I can ever think of a time a coach got an extension after losing.

If he goes to PSU he goes to PSU. If somehow this season remains in tact and goes well (and he doesn’t leave), you give him one at the end of the year.

Flipping a roster is easier than ever. HELLO INDIANA.

If people don't want to see Rhule leave because of the roster, I think that sounds like someone who likes to play ultra safe. And I just don't think playing it safe gets you anywhere you want to be.
