DL Coach Hawt Board v2.0

I’m pretty sure Ie
We're not firing Rhule in a year unless we only win 2-3 games. Too expensive.

ACs sign two-year contracts - they move all the time.
3-9 isn’t completely out of the question with how this offseason has gone so far.

Rhule fires ACs all the time to cover his ass.

I did say “proven” ACs which don’t operate that way

ACs just move often in normal course. If someone's contract ends and they leave, they are not fired.

I really don’t need to argue the point, the results speak for themselves. Does class start next week?
Classes start 1/12, but that is not relevant. Registration deadline is 1/20, that is the relevant date.

What results speak for themselves?

I agree. I don’t see him getting fired next year unless the wheels come completely off.

Don’t know what to think about the whole DL coach situation. I think holding out on Robinson put us behind the eight ball in getting other good candidates.

But I also have to laugh at all the outrage at a coach many don’t think is worthy of being at Nebraska. We’ve sucked for how many years now? To me that is more at play for elite coaches to want the job than the possibility Rhule gets fired next year.

I have mixed feelings about the IWCC coach. But honestly don’t know about him to get too excited one way or the other.

I’m not sure what’s going with the DL - the inability to hire a coach or find any players - but the failure to fix that is actually the most likely path to him getting fired after next year.

We saw how the season ended. A bad DL is a recipe for getting blown out, especially vs that schedule. And if the new qb is turning the ball over….

Everyone spotted it as a problem last year during this time and we were proven to be correct. I have similar thoughts with the RB position this year.

Kind of hard to comprehend.

My fear is that we'd get blasted by negative recruiting if we took a career JUCO coach, even if he is a good coach. For recruiting talented kids who can't make it into a D1 school he might be fine, but I am afraid top DLs out of HS would not be interested in his recruiting.

If they want to hire him as just as, in effect, an assistant DL coach, fine, then if he is productive they might have something to sell if he was later promoted from within in 2-3 years.
Would be ok if he was “a” DL coach with true tenured DL coach with D1 coaching and recruiting experience. No limit to coaches and a juco DL coach shouldn’t cost too much one wouldn’t think considering his options are IWCC and B1G school. We shall see.

The irony is that I'd MUCH rather we hire a top JUCO developer than another guy who's only coached NFL players, even though recruits get starry-eyed when they hear 'NFL coach'.

I think the plan was to hire two guys to cover both - a DL Coach that would attract recruits, an analyst/asst DL coach/ whatever who was a great developer. That seems to be the trend across the P4.
