But…. Why? Maybe some red flags came up on the visit? Asking to much NIL? Certainly a productive player
Productive, yes. But I'm guessing that they brought him in and he was smaller than they expected, and we already have a handful of receivers that fit fit that mold. If we are going to spend money on a WR, which we will, it shouldn't be for Barney 2.0.
Deans just a dipshit that’s why
Yes and no. Dean is a dipshit. But his only connections are to 1890 now, which should give him some pretty good portal info. Maybe 1890 fed him that info to make themselves look better. Or maybe we passed on him because we are higher on other WRs.
WR is the one of my lowest positions of concern.

It'd be nice to reel in multiple studs, sure, but also a position filled with tons of capable players nationwide who can do just fine with a good QB & solid OL in the right system.
Have to disagree. WR play was the reason for Raiola's mid-season regression. Once defenses realized that our WRs didn't know how to get open, that when Raiola began to struggle. Now, I will admit that I think a lot of that was just extremely poor coaching.

I disagree that you have to disagree. It's entirely optional, and I rarely disagree with myself.

But Banks had 600+ yards back to back seasons before he came to NU. Neyor had almost 900 his last healthy season. They were fully capable of getting open & producing at a significant level, but coaching, effort, and/or scheme were lacking here, at least until the last few games.

There were 217 500 yard receivers in CFB in 2024, and the significant majority (136 of them) didn't have 500 yards in 2023. 7 of the 20 1,000 yard receivers in 2024 didn't even have 500 yards in 2023.

Of the 18 1,000 yard receivers from 2023 that came back for 2024, only 3 had 1,000 yard seasons in 2024. Lots of capable players with a low delta between most of the field.

My gut says there is a difference between the P2 and everybody else but I'm curious what those numbers look like limited to the B1G or SEC. How many guys transfer up in terms of competition and have the production you mention.

A playmaker from Wake Forest who put up great production transfers to Nebraska for his senior season and has effort issues and requires better coaching? I'm not saying coaching isn't important but you'd hope he learned something the past 3-4 years. Couldn't say about scheme.

Scheming guys open never seemed like a giant issue with Satt, play calling and situational awareness seemed like the major issues imo. Maybe the size of the playbook was a problem but again, I feel like this is stuff you shouldn't have to worry about with veteran WRs.

Hopefully the answer to all this is Dana.

Banks did look noticeably better once Dana took over IMO.
