Trying to remember who first said it - I think it came from Rhule, talking about advice he got from another coach - "you can coach them as hard as you love them."
I'm hoping it's this, and that it's just a good-natured joke to a guy who had issues with attendance in the past. If it's something he's dealing with now, most of the time it's best to handle it privately if you want to keep a guy's trust.

But it's really not. If he made it privately then I agree. Publicly you have to take into consideration how it could be received. Wrong place for sarcasm/joking.
