Cleansing of 2022 Husker Roster

Who do you add to my list (which is already too short) in order to keep to keep him?

If he is behind freshman on the depth chart he'll probably go anyway
That's why I said there'll be lots of hard decisions. There's gonna be a good number of guys we don't list or expect that leave.

Ty and Blaise are two I wouldn't be surprised to see move on though. Ty has been here a very long time already, so I could see that ship leaving the port. Blaise has been here a bit too but has also been passed up by freshmen. Hell, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see all three of those guys gone. But like I said, that makes that DL situation a bit thin.

Would like to think Blaise gets another year with Rhule and Knighton for development purposes to find out.

Think Ty should try for the NFL after this year. It's Nash's show now.

Is he close to graduation? Do we know that?
His roster page doesn't say.

It's not really relevant, though, as scholarships are not tied to graduation in any way. They are instead tied to using 4 years of eligibility in 5 years (they were not adjusted for Covid).

If you give Blaise another year - which would be his 5th - to see if he can develop it likely means not taking a freshman or transfer who could be here several years at least. It's hard to justify another year.

Does Tagaloa stick around? Another DL that flashed in the spring after a position change. However his is unique in that his car accident apparently was significant enough to end his season well before it even started. Is the injury long term past this year? Or does he just take a medical and call it good?

one of the interesting things about the player's roster pages is that both Sims and Purdy's pages note they are graduating in December. I didn't see any other mentions of graduation dates unless the player had already graduated.

I think they want people to know they can transfer as grad transfers after the season (as otherwise teams could be concerned about a second transfer year in residence). I think both these guys are likely leaving unless one of them gets the starting job before the season is over.

Sims has two years left if he can redshirt, so he has one free game left. Purdy has already redshirted, so playing more games this year is not an issue for him.

@Carm

Who are your candidates for our 2024 Hausmanns? This is a young player that's a foundational piece but gets picked off by a better program?

The two I KNOW teams will be sniffing around are: Leonhart and Princewill. The difference (I hope) is that guys like this will have some loyalty to the current staff whereas Ernest Hausmann understandably didn't (was recruited by previous staff).

Who do we think is getting Harbaughed off our roster this offseason?

Ah, thought it was only year 3 for Blaise, including COVID, which is messy obviously. Probably a tough conversation with him then if we're trying to upgrade.

I was just thinking easy grad transfer if he was.

Good question. I avoid trying to think of this issue.

If we are on an upwards trajectory and these guys are still getting playing time it's hard to see why anyone would be unhappy. They signed with this staff. If someone wants to give them huge NIL we would likely be able to match if we wanted.

Hausmann was somewhat unusual in that 1) there was a coaching change that made it easy to transfer and 2) it turned out he liked Michigan best before he arrived on campus as a freshman but didn't feel it was appropriate to renege on his commitment to Nebraska at the time (they offered him about a month before his commitment to Nebraska and kept trying to flip him until he signed)

I don't think we lose anyone like this TBH. Princewill comes from an area with lots of good teams so I suppose he might want to go home, but we showed interest in him and most of those schools didn't. It's hard to leave a D like this.

Could be an issue for any number of guys if White leaves, though.

Hopefully everyone is a fully-indoctrinated Cult of OOU guy now (lol).

yeah, he is a sophomore but he arrived in 2020 so he has a Covid year and he has already redshirted.

Good clarification on Hausmann and his initial recruitment.

I've been fully expecting UT/Sark to throw a mega NIL $$ tampering package at Princewill. If they do he should tell them "you didn't like me before, so you can take your NIL package & GFY"

Leonhart - wasn't there a lot of mutual interest with PSU during recruitment? But ultimately they passed on him. You'd hope you'd be able to keep guys like this. And Van Poppel.

IMO, I can’t see anyone (that is starting, rotating, in their future plans, etc…) jumping ship. You heard all of the defensive players talk about how fun it was Saturday. Guys are flying around and making plays - all that’s missing (and it’s been talked about Ad Nauseam) are the turnovers.

This current defensive staff is going to rotate bodies and play a lot of numbers. The position coaches all seem like coaches you’d want to play for. Knighton is a budding star.

Princewell is also a guy who has had a relationship with Rhule dating back to his Baylor days. His family's restaurant was one of Rhule's first recruiting stops after he got the job and he was basically N the second we offered.

Yes, eventually he slipped on PSU's board because he didn't grow in his last 1-2 years of HS like they hoped so they thought he wasn't big enough.

Didn't he almost die to start the year?
