Welcome to The Platinum Board. We are a Nebraska Husker news source and fan community.
Sign Up Now!The moment Rhule said "This is the team I've been waiting for", I knew this was going to be the quietest Spring around here in a long time.We really not gonna get a single player in the spring portal? I didn’t expect to be huge players, but I would’ve thought we picked up a player or 2 at positions of need.
The Book of Marty, Chapter 2The Book of Marty, Chapter 1
The Visit to the Land of Huskers
- And it came to pass in the days of spring, that Marty journeyed unto the land of Nebraska, to behold the ways of the Huskers and discern if the Lord's path led him there.
- And lo, at the beginning of his sojourn, there arose a mighty noise from the upper chambers, like thunder shaking the heavens. And the brethren were sore afraid.
- But it was revealed unto them that it was but Coach Rhule, who, in his zeal, had missed the greatest special teams gathering ever led by the mighty Eckler.
- And Eckler, being filled with the spirit of battle, met Marty with a shout and a charge, as a lion meets his prey. And the defensive backs who stood by were uncertain, and whispered among themselves.
- Yet, later in the day, Marty spake, saying, "Surely, I like that man, for he is full of fire."
- Then was Marty brought to dine with Emmitt, a young warrior not shaken by trials, nor fearful of the multitudes who would contend for the crown.
- And Marty looked upon the ways of Nebraska's recruiting and was well-pleased. For he saw that the men of Nebraska chased not after any player, neither did they throw gold and silver as did the men of Miami.
- Neither did they fill houses with many fine words, as the men of California. Nor did they clamor with desperate urgency, as did the men of Kansas State.
- But the Huskers walked uprightly, as though they had already conquered many fields and gathered many victories, even as a ten-win host.
- Then Coach Rhule spake unto Marty, saying, "We desire that thou wouldst watch our warriors clad in armor, and eat where thou shalt eat, and dwell as thou shalt dwell, that thou mayest know the truth of our way."
- "If thou seekest a table set with gold and fine meats in a five-star hall, we shall grant it," said Rhule. "But know this: it is not the riches we offer, but the life and brotherhood that we live daily."
- And in the evening, Marty supped with Coach Rhule, and Barthel, and Dana, and the lady of favor, Julie Rhule, who was called among them "the pocket aces."
- And the father of Marty was counseled by the wise ones, saying, "Pay no heed to the idle words of the message boards, for they are as the chaff which the wind driveth away. The true measure of Nebraska’s desire is found not in vain talk, but in the deeds and spirit of their house."
- And so Marty saw that the men of Nebraska walked in confidence and truth, and that their culture was their armor and their banner, not as merchants who sell vanity, but as brothers who offer a true home.
- Thus ended the first visit, and Marty pondered all these things in his heart.

The Turning Toward the South
- And it came to pass, after many days, that Marty lifted up his eyes unto the coasts of the south, and his heart was stirred within him.
- For the winds from the land of Miami blew warm upon his face, and the voices of the heralds were loud with promise, and their words like honey upon the tongue.
- And lo, the men of Miami did lay before Marty many treasures: fine apparel, swift chariots, and halls filled with feasting.
- And their speech was smooth as oil, and they said unto him, “Come thou with us, and thou shalt dwell in the land of brightness, where the sun never ceaseth and the waters are as crystal.”
- Then did Marty reason within himself, saying, “Surely this path is filled with ease, and many have trodden it before me and found glory.”
- And he remembered not the charge of Coach Rhule, nor the fire of Eckler, nor the brotherhood that dwelt in the heart of the prairie.
- For the eyes of Marty were taken by the glittering things, and he set his face toward the land of palms and the sea.
- And when the men of Nebraska heard these things, there was silence in the house of Rhule.
- Then spake Rhule, son of discipline, unto the brethren, “Grieve not, neither rend your garments nor cast ashes upon your heads.
- For the path of each man is his own, and the Lord weaveth the tapestry as He willeth.”
- “We are but sowers of the seed. Some shall fall by the wayside, and some shall be carried by the wind. But the harvest is yet to come.”
- And Eckler, filled with the spirit, did shout mightily in the training field, and said, “Though Marty depart, yet the mission remaineth! Let us press forward and not grow weary, for the battle is not won in one season!”
- And Emmitt, the young lion, said, “We shall forge ahead, for though one hath turned aside, many more shall rise.”
- Then the scribes and message-board prophets rose up, crying, “Woe! Marty hath departed! Surely the days of glory have passed!”
- But the wise among them rebuked them, saying, “Be still, O ye of little faith. For a single warrior doth not make a host, nor shall one decision unravel the cords of culture and might.”
- And the people of Nebraska gathered again to labor in unity, to train in silence, and to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood.
- And it was said among them, “Though Marty goeth unto another land, yet the red banner shall not fall, for our foundation is laid upon rock, and not upon shifting sands.”
- Thus endeth the second chapter in the days of Marty. And the people of the plains waited not for kings, but built daily, knowing that the storm shall come—and they shall be ready.
