So I’m trying to plan a trip for my wife and I to the Caribbean in October for her 40th. I’ve got a $5,000 stipend from my job to spend on it.

I’ll want to go fishing once or twice, we’re into snorkeling & spearfishing, want to do a shark dive and getting stoned/drunk on a nice beach. Also into fine dining/tasting menus. We’re going to be flying out of Orlando. The all-inclusive thing is always nice. The kid will be flying home from Disney World with his grandpa so it’ll just be my wife and I.

Any recommendations? There’s just so many islands and options to choose from and I don’t want to fuck it up.

We did Jamaica…Sandals Ochi about 6 weeks ago. We were not impressed. If all inclusive try a Secrets resort. We like those the best.

Any of the ABC islands have been the best snorkeling/fishing experiences for me.

Curacao if I had to pick a favorite.

I can second that. Dreams/secrets/breathless/Zoetry (same company) are my favorite. Nice beachfront properties, lots of food options, and great staff.

I think right now I’m leaning towards Secrets Cap Cana after the recs in here and doing some research

My only advice is to listen to as much Billy Ocean as possible.

What dates in October? I have someone working in my dining room that is pretty good at this stuff.

Was supposed to go there last year but had to cancel because of Covid. Was really excited about it.

I'm in the beginning stages of planning a Caribbean vacay for 2023 although I'm probably not going to do the resort thing but instead book a villa and do my own thing. Thinking either Virgin Islands or St. Martin. I like how St Martin is split Dutch & French so you can get a little bit of both those cultures, from my understanding St Martin is real good for dining/nightlife but Virign Islands are better for nature. Also not ruling out St Lucia as I've read some real good things about it. Will probably come down to what I am able to book for the dates I decide on.

Your research is correct. St. Maarten/St. Martin is fantastic. Dutch side is slightly cheaper and has a little better beaches than the French side. French sides food is some of the best food I've had.

Anyone done Costa Rica? Or other Central American trips? Classmate went to Costa Rica on his honeymoon and said it was fantastic.

I went last year. Andaz Papagayo. Probably the best trip I’ve ever had. Incredible, they had a seafood restaurant on site where the main chef specializes in ceviche. I had ceviche 3 meals a day for 4 days.

Plus I caught a 100lb sailfish on light gear

We did a catamaran boat cruise around St Marteen and the surrounding areas a few years ago. I would highly recommend it, it was awesome.
