Cam Jurgens

Maybe but he was legitimately fucking up the entire offense for a while

It was a bit of a tire fire for a while. The right move when he was learning to play the position was to play someone else and let him get a series here and there.

The whole process from declaration that he was an NFL center in the making (turned out to be 100% accurate), to the insane off season weight gain, to dealing with injuries, to him starting right away looked a lot like an ‘I’m going to prove I’m right’ moment for the previous staff. Make him play behind someone for a year and he’s likely here his Senior year instead of declaring early.

Almost too bad Ben Scott wasn't here right before Cam.

The problem was it was either Jurgens -who would misfire a number of snaps each game, but provide the only spark blocking-wise on the interior line - or else Will Farniok, who wasn't prone to snap wildly, but was also both young & very borderline as to being a P5 talent.

Neither way felt like the right move, but our OL room had been undermanned & poorly managed for a long time, so we were picking our poison.

Ideally he learns from a seasoned FBS center. I know that’s not always how it works, but it would have made a big difference for a guy who’d never played any position along the line before.

I don’t disagree that this was at minimum some level of choosing your method of execution. I still suspect even half the season behind an actual offensive lineman would have made a difference in the results that year.

Granted, things obviously turned out fine for Jurgens. Of course playing behind and/or with Kelce didn’t suck either.

I remember the days where Cam couldn’t snap the ball. Now Jason Kelce likely gives him an “atta boy” for a job well done.
