Bill Busch interview

Tuned in late at 7 but very interesting to listen to. Will have to go back and listen to the first hour on their podcast.

BB was amazing; I wish Rhule retained him in some capacity. Not sure if BB wants to retire or get another job.

Any specific good stories or insights from Busch?
I've only listened to the first segment so far, but:

He said the walk through of the morning of the Cockeye game was one of the best he's been involved it. Said players were super focussed and businesslike and confident in their assignments. Compared it to walk throughs before playoff games at LSU.

He had no involvement with the defense this year before being named DC. He said he offered to help out with D coaching during practice when he was the ST coordinator, but they didn't really need him or take him up on it.

Sounds like Busch was the main reason Joe Burrow ended up at LSU as he knew him and pushed for him. He knew Burrow from his time coaching at Ohio State. Later when Busch was at LSU and Burrow was transferring, he told Burrow and Coach O that LSU would win a natty with him at QB. When JB did come and if he had a poor practice, Coach O would walk by Busch and grumble, "Joe didn't throw it too good today."

He said those stud LSU WRs insisted on going up against the No. 1 DB's every day in practice. Said they worked extremely hard, and it really sets the culture when your best players are your hardest workers.

He was wearing a Las Vegas Bowl hat, which he coached in as part of the Utah staff. They beat USC in Pete Carroll's first year. He joked that that loss motivated Carroll to go on to greatness.

He said playing Hertzog was his call and Fisher was on board with it. Said he was small and young, but just did everything right and really worked hard and studied. After he got bodied up by bigger receivers in his first game and beat a couple times, they talked about replacing him, but decided to stick with him.

He said he is sad that he is no longer on the Husker staff, but understands what happens when a new coach comes in. Says he is still a big Husker fan and will continue to cheer for them.
