Wife came home yesterday and said one kid already smacked her principal and another teacher in the face yesterday. By rule, they can't do anything back, so they just tried to verbally correct it. Not going to work obviously. So my wife was livid that they're basically teaching the kids they can do what they want physically, and nothing will be done. Discipline in schools is a joke.
Yeah we never fully mature.
Yep and if he has an IEP the school CAN'T do anything about it most of the time if it is related to his "disability". Hell a kid can stab another kid with a pencil and still not be punished if can be put back on the disability. Crazy stuff. They are trying to help the student, which I get, but put the rest of the students in danger.
The second of our idiots starts pre-k in a few weeks. It's dumb and stupid how this time thing works
My wife works with the SPED kids, and it's pretty unreal what happens in a classroom these days. There IS a path to moving problem kids out of the district into more specialized care, but it's a kicking and screaming departure for most parents. The kids have a path to return, but there are a lot of developmental milestones to pass before that kids in.
The cut off date is the end of July in Nebraska. My one kid’s birthday was July 22. I put him in full day preschool to see if he was ready a couple years ago, but he wasn’t so he went to preschool for another year. He just turned 6 and had his first day of kindergarten last week. The principal at their elementary school is against any kids who aren’t 5 by March going to kindergarten. I think the big issue is maturity. The extra year makes a big difference.
Yeah, everything I read recommended you hold and make them the oldest instead of the youngest in class. Helps with maturity and sports too haha
I’ll let you know on the maturity part this year. I had him in all day pre school for two years. I’m hoping it helped on the behavioral part because that’s where he really needed to get better.
My oldest had his first day of kindergarten today. It's a busy Dallas public school that's K-8, so I was proud of him being brave and walking right in with all that chaos around him. It'll be interesting to see what he has to say about it at pickup this afternoon.
Our oldest started Kindergarten this morning and he just turned 5 on june 20th. Our preference was to hold him back, but Dallas ISD requires them to start with their class based on birthday. In other words, if we would have held him back and did pre-k again at the private lutheran school he's went to the last 3 years, Dallas ISD told us he would go into 1st grade when he went into public school. Really frustrating and stupid, but we didn't really have a choice but to start him in kindergarten.

Hope it goes great. My daughter is very social. Whenever we go to the park, or out to an event or whatever, my wife taught her to refer to other children as "friend". When we tried swim lessons on her own back in the spring, she did very good on the first session, and horrible on the second. So I'm curious, when our day comes, how she'll do on the first day compared to others. Grandma has been daycare since she was born, minus a few emergency situations. Most of the time spent around her cousins, but I wouldn't say daily too much around other kids, unless me and my wife make an effort to get her out and about. We'll see. Again, hope your son's day went great!

My daughter has gotten quite a few ear infections over her first 2 and almost half years. I think that's normal, but I'm not sure. She has tubes. I can say that my wife is very much a clean freak, unlike myself, so I believe in the strengthen the immune system by normal exposure to kids instead of going to the edge o the earth to make sure she doesn't get common childhood sick. It's going to happen, might as well get it out of the way. She's been in soccer for pretty much all summer so that has helped quite a bit with socializing and being around kids and what not.
