My SIL is a 3rd year teacher, and I allow her to vent to me at times. her first two years damn near caused her to have a drinking problem. More behavior correcting for a few kids then actual teaching for the whole class. One kid would have fits so bad the class would have to evacuate the room until he was done.
Teachers cant do shit anymore, they suggested he transfer to an alternative school and the parents flipped a lid saying they just didnt like the kid and wanted to hurt his development.
Wife came home yesterday and said one kid already smacked her principal and another teacher in the face yesterday. By rule, they can't do anything back, so they just tried to verbally correct it. Not going to work obviously. So my wife was livid that they're basically teaching the kids they can do what they want physically, and nothing will be done. Discipline in schools is a joke.

Yep and if he has an IEP the school CAN'T do anything about it most of the time if it is related to his "disability". Hell a kid can stab another kid with a pencil and still not be punished if can be put back on the disability. Crazy stuff. They are trying to help the student, which I get, but put the rest of the students in danger.

Son goes back Wednesday. He's just Pre-K yet so he loves school and is excited to be with his friends. Kicks me right in the nuts every time I think about how quickly we got here though.

The second of our idiots starts pre-k in a few weeks. It's dumb and stupid how this time thing works

I started my first born last week on the 10th. Was bittersweet knowing his forever free days and my extra time with him just got cut drastically. Pretty happy for him but also bummed my little buddy is growing so fast. We got lucky, he’s a good one! Teachers won’t have issues with him at all.
On the fun side he did start NFL flag football last week.

My wife works with the SPED kids, and it's pretty unreal what happens in a classroom these days. There IS a path to moving problem kids out of the district into more specialized care, but it's a kicking and screaming departure for most parents. The kids have a path to return, but there are a lot of developmental milestones to pass before that kids in.

FWIW, the specialized care is charged back to the home school district, so on behalf of all property owners who ultimately pay for that specialized care ... please raise your kid at home before presuming the school district is going to raise them for you.

Good luck to all the Dads (and maybe a handful of very brave Moms on the board) sending their kids back to school.

My oldest could have started kindergarten but he would be the youngest one (he turns 5 this month), so both kids still in pre-k for one more year
The cut off date is the end of July in Nebraska. My one kid’s birthday was July 22. I put him in full day preschool to see if he was ready a couple years ago, but he wasn’t so he went to preschool for another year. He just turned 6 and had his first day of kindergarten last week. The principal at their elementary school is against any kids who aren’t 5 by March going to kindergarten. I think the big issue is maturity. The extra year makes a big difference.

Yeah, everything I read recommended you hold and make them the oldest instead of the youngest in class. Helps with maturity and sports too haha

I’ll let you know on the maturity part this year. I had him in all day pre school for two years. I’m hoping it helped on the behavioral part because that’s where he really needed to get better.

Back to school for the kiddos. My daughter still has a couple years to go, but one of my best friend's daughter just started Kindergarten and has her first full day today.

How'd yesterday go for everyone? Any first times? My buddy said full range of emotions for him! Hope life takes me a while for me to get to that point.
My oldest had his first day of kindergarten today. It's a busy Dallas public school that's K-8, so I was proud of him being brave and walking right in with all that chaos around him. It'll be interesting to see what he has to say about it at pickup this afternoon.

Our oldest started Kindergarten this morning and he just turned 5 on june 20th. Our preference was to hold him back, but Dallas ISD requires them to start with their class based on birthday. In other words, if we would have held him back and did pre-k again at the private lutheran school he's went to the last 3 years, Dallas ISD told us he would go into 1st grade when he went into public school. Really frustrating and stupid, but we didn't really have a choice but to start him in kindergarten.

They told us the only real alternative was for him to go through kindergarten and then if we felt like we wanted to hold him back, we could meet with the principal and the teacher after this year and see if it made sense for him to repeat the grade. That seems silly, too, but we'll see.

Interesting, let me know how it goes!
Side note but it’s crazy to have a Kindergarten aged kid already 😳

Hope it goes great. My daughter is very social. Whenever we go to the park, or out to an event or whatever, my wife taught her to refer to other children as "friend". When we tried swim lessons on her own back in the spring, she did very good on the first session, and horrible on the second. So I'm curious, when our day comes, how she'll do on the first day compared to others. Grandma has been daycare since she was born, minus a few emergency situations. Most of the time spent around her cousins, but I wouldn't say daily too much around other kids, unless me and my wife make an effort to get her out and about. We'll see. Again, hope your son's day went great!

Thanks man. I hope he had a great day, too.

FWIW, both of our boys (5 & 3.5yrs) have went to a structured Lutheran early learning center for the last 3 years from 8am-4:30pm each day (oldest son 2 thru pre-k, youngest infant thru now 3y/o class). Feel it has been fantastic in introducing them to other adult authority figures in a structured classroom setting. It also helps them learn social skills and interaction with their peers. Last, but certainly not least, is building up their immune systems. It is super frustrating how often they were both sick their first year, but we wanted to get all of that out of the way before they went into public school.

My daughter has gotten quite a few ear infections over her first 2 and almost half years. I think that's normal, but I'm not sure. She has tubes. I can say that my wife is very much a clean freak, unlike myself, so I believe in the strengthen the immune system by normal exposure to kids instead of going to the edge o the earth to make sure she doesn't get common childhood sick. It's going to happen, might as well get it out of the way. She's been in soccer for pretty much all summer so that has helped quite a bit with socializing and being around kids and what not.

My oldest son is at Ft. Moore in GA doing basic and AIT, my younger son starts his JR year tomorrow, and my youngest started high school today. It really goes fast, so all you with little kids, cherish it now before you're arguing with your 15 yr daughter over her goddamn shorts being too short and realizing you're 4 years away from being empty nesters. FTR, im 40 and my wife is 38. We started young, but glad we did as we will have a lot of time to travel and shit before our bodies start to break down
