You make an excellent point. Me tinks we're "settling" vs. shooting for the moon, though I will admit (as a UNO alum) I was "tickled pink" when Turd landed Dean Blaise at the hockey coach. He definitely aimed high for that hire. I hope I'm beyond pleasantly surprised when the dust settles with the new staff. Fingers crossed.

I don't know that Leipold is the front runner or that BOB was the guy at the end of last season.

What are Bill O’Brien’s redeeming qualities? He’s never really recruited, he doesn’t manage games well, his offenses are average to above average (outside of Bama), he seems like a general asshole of a person.
While I don't doubt there might be some interest in Lance or Campbell, I have a hard time believing Turd is saying much of anything to anyone. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if some of these 'leaks' are a smoke screen setup by Turd intentionally while he is out talking to his top choice. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong, but I think this search is a long ways off from being done.
Basically, the line is that he coaches QBs well and coached at PSU when they were sanctioned by the NCAA, winning COY honors. Coached well enough in the NFL and he's OC for Bama.
Otherwise, it sounds like he's a prick who wasn't interested in the college game enough to stay at a place like PSU for more than a couple years until he got run out of the NFL and is now in Saban rehab.
The tie in with OutKast will be legit. Replace The Killigans with B.O.B.
Probably our Potato TC Boosters who want someone with Nebraska ties. Between Bohl, Kleiman (North Dakota but close enough) & Leipold he's the only one that has his team playing well. It is wait and see for me with Leipold as he has 2 athletic QBs that are very tough to game plan for and his O Line coach has the line playing amazing. Tough offense to defend right now. If Leipold runs the table and is near the top of the Big 12 come end of season and has them ranked then maybe I will change my tune. He's a solid coach but I would prefer a proven winner at the Power5 Level. I think he is a High Flor Low Ceiling kinda coach. Basically would have us between 7-9 wins/season and looking like a well coached team. But recruiting is a big concern and we need the horses to compete with Ohio St, Penn St, Michigan, USC.......... I'd prefer a coach with a proven track record and more experience at the Power5 level. We have Fuck You levels of coin right now let's get a coach that the rest of the B1G goes Fuck when we hire him

He's not the guy for this turnaround IMO
FWIW, he walked into an infinitely-more difficult situation in 2012 at Pedo State than what we have here. He was in a no-win situation, and still put together a 15-9 record in 2 years with a reduction of 30 scholarships and a political nightmare with the whole place being inbred with Paterno loyalists. Nebraska would be a walk in the park.
I just don't see him as a long-term solution. Read this and tell me this guy would handle the TC well.

When O'Brien arrived, he was exactly what PSU needed when they needed it. But he was never destined to fit for long at a place where just being a coach wasn't enough for some.
