I don’t trust us going to Minnesota on a short week and winning on Friday night and I could see us choking against Cockeye. Our talent level isn’t good enough to expect 8-9 wins. Maybe it does happen, but I wouldn’t chalk anything with our lines in the BIG which are average.

I’m expecting….no…maybe hoping…for some improvement in both units as the season moves along and the youth starts to figure it out. I think you’re overreacting about Key and Hunter a bit. They are difference makers. Dylan had no time today to go through any of his reads. He often was running for his life and had to improvise a throw to a tight window or take the sack. Not being argumentative but based on what we’ve seen from them and they’re career to this point, it’d be very unfair to call them insignificant.

Watching the replays, you don’t see separation. They’re not winning the one on ones or splitting zone when that’s the play, regardless of line play. We’re limiting ourselves a bit in play calling, but I suspect Holgorsen knows he can’t take the ceiling off and has to play the short game.

I’m also not calling them insignificant, I just don’t believe they’re capable of changing the game against good opposition. Trey Palmer they ain’t. No offense meant.

Biff's Butthole Surfers does have solid talent, but it’s not as good as it has been on the lines . We should get better, but those other teams should get better too. Atleast our special teams look adequate these days.

The roster is half very, very young. I think we’ll be OK.

Now to prove that, those kids will have to start producing this year. Some of that is already happening, Unfortunately none of it is on the OL.

This isn't the 2023 Biff's Butthole Surfers squad, not even close. Also Biff's Butthole Surfers went like 7-5 last year - did they forget how to win and now they've remembered again?

When we won a close game against Cincinnati, we'd suddenly learned how to win a close game. Did we forget? No, all nonsense, we are just not a great team. We're a decent team and not much more.

Watching the Indiana game and it made me wonder - where would we rank Rhule among Big 10 coaches?

Definitely behind Lanning and Day.

Franklin is a lightning rod but has been much more consistent and successful.

Bielema, Cignetti would have to be above him at this point.

Ferentz? Unfortunately yes.

Fleck? Might have to consider him better at this point (gross), esp given what he has to work with.

Riley? Historically, yes. Last two years make it questionable.

Fisch? Kind of hard to quantify but he may prove to be pretty good.

So he’s maybe somewhere between 7th and 10th in the conference. And that seems like about where we are.

Edit to add: which shows how ridiculously competitive this conference is. And we are probably going to have to put more into it if we want to better than the 7th team.
