I don't mean to debate whether Mickey should or shouldn't get the job (still too early for that) but I'm curious if anybody has heard any rumblings about what hypothetical situation could vault him up the list of candidates? I personally think making a bowl game in the aftermath of Frost's ridiculous shitshow would be an incredible feat, but I also wouldn't be surprised if Turd already decided that a long head coaching resume outweighs anything that Mickey could accomplish this year.

The roller coaster is officially off and running baby, anybody know anything?

1. I bet there is a list of tier one candidates, and if one of them wants the job, they get the job, and Mickey probably knows this.

2. If none of the tier one candidates want the job, and Mickey gets us to a bowl game, the job is probably his.

3. If none of the tier one candidates want the job, and Mickey doesn't get us to a bowl game, then we probably look elsewhere.

This looks right. I’m a lazy poster.

Mickey would have to present Turd with one helluva plan to get the HC job at NU. Wins are not enough. You don't give the keys to an unproven Interim HC because he wins a couple games.

Mickey needs to get bowl eligible. Then he needs to show Turd how he is planning on running the program, which assistants, recruiting strategies etc... there is a lot more to it than just winning 6 games.

Hypothetically, if Mickey does well the rest of the season by competing with every team, gets to a bowl game, and has a great plan as HC, then it’s his to lose assuming the other top three candidates say no.

I treat it as a manager decision. If one of your subordinate supervisors leaves and one of their employees steps up, you don’t keep looking and promote the guy who stepped. Any A lister will get the first call, but why waste resources when the step-up guy is doing well?

I mean we should be able to attract a tier 1 candidate... You figure with the facilities, NIL, Salary, Assistant Pool, etc....

Mickey would really need to be able to wow Turd to get the job IYAM. Frankly if he does make it to a bowl game and Turd has a candidate it could create an awkward situation.

Here's hoping it gets pretty awkward
